Anyone know the best AR-15 platform considering the price?

The CMMG BB 18" 1/7 is a good rifle, even if you don't knoe exactly whats in it, it still tends to be better than BM, RRA, Delton etc.

But still this is all just random opinions until you tell us exactly what the rifles purpose is.

My opinion: Get a Colt LE6920
Agreed-- I love mine, and wish I would have passed on the Stag 2 at $800 and got the GMMG BB M4 carbine....

But I am glad as heck for my 18", 1/7"....

This is my CMMG Bargain Bin 18" Government profile barrel AR-15. Chrome lined 1/7 twist barrel. It cost $599 plus shipping. I added an A2 buttstock, riser mount, scope and a Magpul MOE pistol grip.............:D

That price is pretty slim.

Right now Noveske is giving away a blemished stripped lower with the purchase of any upper. Less than $900, and you have most of a PREMIUM AR. Then go to Brownell's or Midway, load it with lots of goodies from Magpul. The basic guts for a lower are about $60.

Seriously, a stripped lower takes 30 minutes to assemble.

FMJMIKE...is that what most of the bargain bin guns look like? It looks sweet. The only thing is, I'm not that familiar with AR's, would I be able say if I did buy one and it looks exactly like yours...would I be able to replace the barrel with a bull barrel or replace the butt stock?

This is how my CMMG rifle came out of the box............

It was pretty much a very nice looking rifle. It must have been the only one in the Bin because it was spotless. There is no play between the upper and lower receiver at all. I was lucky and got a CMMG lower receiver but other people have gotten others. The scope is a Leupold Vari-X II 3 X 9 X 40 and cost me $200 about 8 years ago. Replacing the buttstock is not too hard but you would need special tools to replace the barrel. The AR-15 is kinda like a Barbie Doll for guys.......You can dress it any way you wish..............:D

They are pretty much universal, unless otherwise indicated. The most common difference is that Colt has different size holes. Go to Brownells.com and order their free AR catalog. All kinds of stuff you never knew you needed until you saw it in there. This is not the end. It's the beginning.

Colt has standard size holes now. At least the 6920 I picked up new a little while ago is standard. Colt was losing alot of sales because of that non-mil spec rubbish. So they're back to normal now.

If the OP wants a heavier barrel, The current CDNN magazine might not be a bad place to look. I believe there were some normal CMMG production rifles with medium or heavy contour barrels for the mid $700's through the mid $800's. CDNN also still has the Smith and Wesson Optics Ready M&P-15 for $799. I picked up one of the Smiths back in the fall, and am very satisfied. Happy hunting.

Jsor, Pretty much, especially the mil-spec brands like Colt, cmmg, bushmaster, etc... But I'm pretty sure not ALL of the brands are universal.

I have not seen, but have heard that Smith and Wesson M&P's can be had for around $700 to $800...I would jump on that.

Ummm Actually RRA uses a Wylde Chamber. It is a hybrid between 5.56 and .223. That being said Zero is wrong on it being .223. I will ding RRA on a number of things but I have never seen a problem that was traced back to the chamber.
