Anyone prefer no tube extension on HD shotgun?

No I don't prefer. Really, am I going to get into a shotgun battle or use it as a deterrent/defensive tool? I figure when the zombie apocalypse comes, I'll revert back to mid cycle reloading techniques anyhow.

Also, it would dick with my bayonet roost.:)

Well, for a Section.1 shotgun kept on a Firearms Certificate (rather than a "normal" Section.2 gun kept on a ShotGun Certificate):

I thought that there was a mag cap on shotguns over there.
Nope. :)
The rules on shotguns in the UK are not as unreasonably stupid as their laws governing handguns and rifles.
There is a magazine capacity limit, though I'm not sure what it is
As I said, "nope".
semi-auto shotguns are allowed.
Indeed; there are a number of people shootin' Saiga 12s over here. However, one difference between an SGC and FAC is that the police don't start to whinge at you until you have, say, a dozen guns. With a FAC, you have "slots" (I have two slots) and you are only allowed one gun per slot. Hence, while I can buy 3-shot limited shotguns "for fun" on my SGC, I have to be ruthless on the Section.1 slots. Unless, of course, I can come up with "justification" for extra slots.

Rifles, by the way, are held on FAC so, once again, no buying loads of fun guns. Unless you have a *need* for them.

One *can* have pistols, but they are (IIRC) Section.5 which means you have to have *very* good reason to acquire one. For example, humane despatch or as a backup gun for dangerous game hunters. (Uh, where the *game* is dangerous - not the hunters...)
Believe it or not, but some of the best practical shotgun competitors are Brits.
Yeah but, unfortunately, not *me*. :)

As has been said, a lot depends upon what method you use for speed-loading. I'm still using a plain ol' speed-loader belt with vertical clips. As for the rest of our club, many use three, four or six cartridge boxes. Some use belts that hold rounds vertically in pairs and we have at least one that wears a "suicide bomber" chest rig. Finally, we have one that uses long plastic pipes that hold half-a-dozen rounds each and are slid in using a handle.

Nonetheless, if you want to be fast, you have to *practice*. In addition to making oneself familiar with one's gun, PSG is also damned good *fun*. :)

Regards,

Mark.

"Anyone prefer no tube extension on HD shotgun?"

All of my 12 ga. pumps and autoloaders are hunting guns. If I have to empty 3 or 4 repeaters - with the mag plugs removed - I suppose I'll be stuck defending myself with 15-round FNP-45 and an AR.

I'm not planning on going door to door clearing houses, especially with a shotgun.

I absolutely prefer extensions on my shotguns.

Justin nailed it in an earlier post when he stated some people shoot their guns like a large bore rifle rather than a bird gun. I have patterned my gun enough to know that it behaves like a large bore rifle rather than a bird gun at in house distances. I also know it would pattern the same without the weight of the Wilson extension, Clark barrel clamp, Surefire forend, and two extra rounds up there.

I see no point in gaining swing speed only to give it up in reloading time and increased shot to shot recovery time.

I have a 1 shot mag extension on my pardner pump so I have 6+1 and 6 on the side saddle. If you think it might weigh to much you can come over and use my workout bench.

I have two 870's and both have 2 round extensions on them. But I have recently purchased a mossberg 500 and i'm really enjoying not having the mag extension on it. 5+1 is plenty, especially if you have trained and use your gun often. YMMV but it works for me.

Maybe, but not everyone runs a dedicated HD setup, or if they do, utilize something that's set up like an Open class 3 gun shotgun.

My HD shotgun is also my skeet gun with a different barrel. Can't see how it would be bad to have a 3 gun shotgun for a HD shotgun.
