Per the title... I need ideas. Please post your parts lists and explain why you chose them. Also list the approximate prices if you can remember.
This thread has nothing to do with what I want or need. Again, I just want ideas.
Used Del-Ton dti-15 EH16 rifle.
Good price for basic lower and beater 5.56 upper. 375 usd.
PSA .300 aac upper. 258 usd.
Trybe 7.62x39 upper. 284 usd.
Trybe .223 wylde upper 265 usd.
All uppers 16" hb mlok.
The og upper is not known for accuracy and has that whole 80's vibe. Sitting in city limits listening to coyote. Deer. Occassional spring black bear.
So I justified that frivolity because the EH16 dti-15 is a good upper for the officials to hold after a critter defense.
.223 wylde for ammo range.
.300 aac because it is popular and easy to run.
7.62 x 39 for hunting deer and feral hogs. Because I can run an 1860 colt, we will learn to make that run well.
Very new to modern rifles. Lot's o' armed security, mildly proficient with handguns.
Small game with .22. Two deer, one 1898 Carl Gustav 6.5 swede. One mossy 500 hastings..
Was told early '01 that the jeep that ran me over had permanently limited my mobility.
Fasting, prayer, and a long road since and we can waddle ten miles over moderate slopes in a day.
So I wanted a rifle for this patch of Appalachia.
Black Bear, Coyote, Feral Hogs, are the predatory critters here. 5.56 legal for deer.
My reasoning. I will not walk 100 yards to start looking for a blood trail unless WalMart is in flames.
So basic builds will do. I love the gucci gear. My banker calls that grandiose ideation as she has the same problem with automobiles.
Then after all that keyboard kommando gear acquisition syndrome, I actually bought an m&p 15-22 .22lr that will ackchually be used to forage if need presents.
It will get more range time, allowed on more ranges. It is the most likely to hunt. .22lr is the Appalachian problem solver.
When I was a boy it was .22 rimfire ( short ).
For the price of a nice midrange 5.56 we have four kinds of ammo, a .22, and can still add a .450 bushmaster upper before we get into " entry level " premium rifles.
I had looked at a 30/30. For a Henry you can safely unload, mount a dot on, it was about what I have in four uppers, a lower, and a .22.
With the first upper and the lower being used. Also the .22.
Budget caused me to use these components.
