What is everyone's favorite source for good AR magazines? I was away when the ban expired, and now there are so many sources that I don't know who to go with.

Bushmaster factory mags any good?

Thanks.

I second yaya's opinion, they are the only ones I've used. Usually rather cheap so that if you test them and have a issue you can use it for parts.

I don't know anything about the Bushmasters so can't comment on them.

No expert

Brownells,four four mag,Cdnn?,ammoman.com,
Too many sources10 to 15 dollars each
Check the for sale sections here,TFL,PU.FFF,and uther forums there are good buys around and maybe you can git in on a group buy, they do it alot here .

Pawn shops can be decent

Stick to military mags. I haven't gotten around to trying the Israeli stuff but I bet they're decent.

USGI 30rnd can be had for under ten bucks.

I used DSGArms. They offered USGI stuff in grey or black teflon coatings. I purcahsed their "upgraded" magazines which I don't think are being offered anymore. They came with the USGI magazine body, upgraded Magpul follower, Wolff springs, and a Ranger Plate. Not too bad for ~$30 ea considering the plain jane USGI stuff were fetching $25+ with months of backorders piling up (not sure if its still backed up like that).

I have had good success with USA magazines. I used to see them all over, but less so now. I have 2 of their 40 rounders that both work great. I didn't have to work on them at all.

I bought a no name "US GI" mag once with the green follower people mention. It didn't work. The bullets would get stuck halfway down the mag about 50% of the time.

USGI .....USGI.....USGI , but having said that (three times no less!) BROWNELLS has a new high quality mag that you can get all mil-spec or mil-spec with a chrome silicone spring. This spring is supposed to resist taking a set (I don't pretend to know the truth about that). I do have a few of these and am very pleased with the quality. And BROWNELLS stands behind anything they sell.

I'm mostly curious if there are any good 10-rounders. The local outdoor range here gets suspicious of anyone with "high cap magazines". They don't have issues with 10-round magazines however. Otherwise, I use 30-rounders when I'm shooting on a friend's property.

Like Richard.Howe,I've had nothing but good luck with Colt 20 rounders. The Brownells AR mag also comes in a 20 rd. model with a slightly curved body so that the later anti-tilt follower can be used. I've also used Bushmasters 10 rd. mags and they would meet your needs for range mags.

I am a 3-gun shooter and reliability is very important. I have standardized on Thermolds and have never had a mag related problem in about 10,000 rounds down range. I recently got a 30/45 and so far it is good.

When I feel the need to buy AR mags, I just find the cheapest place that is selling USGI mags, and order away.

"Suspicious"?? :scrutiny: I think I'd take 30's just to watch them squirm. Just the same, I've never had a problem with my Bushmaster Bill Clinton edition 10rd magazines, though they might not be in production anymore. The looked like a 30rd mag body chopped to the length of a 20rd magazine, then blocked halfway up so it would only hold 10 rounds. Hideous, but they functioned perfectly for me. Since they are the length of a 20 round mag though, your range probably wouldn't know the difference. Personally I wouldn't buy an AR mag of less than 20 rounds for any reason other than to comply with hunting regulations.

I believe they are still in production for states like mine (Ka) that still limit the capacity. I have 2 that are stamped May 05.

I have some for sale right now...

in the trading post accessories area. Good prices that inlcude shipping, 20 and 30 rnds. Also have some stripper clips.

+1 on gi mags - and they're expendable items ;)

SO? screw 'em. what business is it of theirs how many rounds you stuff in a mag? sure they might have a reason not to let you shoot big boy stuff like a .50 or rapid fire, but they can eat a bowl of poop on the mag size thing. excuse me while i mutter darkly.

Some say the best of the GI models are the LaBelles, now D&H. Can't confirm, because I've never had a problem with any of the USGI models. And yeah, ar15.com equipment exchange probably has the best prices.
