Are factory crimp dies necessary for rimmed cartridges?

A factory crimp die for any cartridge is handy, when a cartridge doesn't gauge due to runout (the bullet is not square to the case). That die for crimping works fine for jacketed bullets that are in spec. The FCD is counter productive with slightly larger lead bullets unless needed for runout, failure to gauge. Even there, if the cartridge will fit the chambers of all the guns as the gauges, the die isn't needed. Fundamentally, lead bullets require a different die or at least removal of the post crimp ring of the FCD.
