Are you less precise reloading for guns with open sights?

The title pretty much says it all. Are you less precise when it comes to fire arms that are less precise (open sights). I'm asking about powder measuring, case trimming etc.

Nope, I reload all my ammo (plinking or premium) to the same standard; I reload as if I were competing in a World Class Tournament. I got the time and I like it that way. No downside...:D

Why would you want to do that?

I was simply asking a question as I'm very new to reloading. I find my self weighing every charge to .1 grain for my 25-06 scopes rifle but wanting to just use powder dippers for my shorty 16.5" 243 with open sights.

I don't think I will ever spend as much time loading individual 9mm rounds as I will with rifle rounds for my 308. Progressive press with volumetric powder measure for 9mm, hand weigh every charge and single stage press for my 308.

I don't intentionally load anything "less precise" because what would be the point of that? But I wonder what makes you think any guns with open sights are less precise? Maybe the shooter is less precise, but some of my most accurate rifles have open or peep sights. Optics don't alter the precision unless they somehow mess with harmonics.

This makes no sense to me??

No, all my ammo is the same regardless of what it is fed to,

This is exactly what I'm thinking.

Its not a matter of open as it is how much difference it will make in the round you are loading. Load with your dippers and see if it makes any noticeable difference in your scoped rifle. .1 gr in a rifle cartridge is nothing. .1gr in a 25acp is significant.

And I agree with you I guess. I'll say that I'm way more precise with my 16x scope on my 25-06 shooting 0.5 MOA then I am with my sawed off 243 with a big fiber opic front sight and peep in the back.

With rifle rounds, they all get the same treatment. Pistol rounds are loaded using a lee perfect powder measure on my single stage press. I don't load thousands of pistol rounds, rifle rounds, that's a different story.

All of my cases are gauged, and if necessary trimmed, regardless.

Powder is dumped from the powder measure. I weight a charge every time I refill the primer tube. (every 100 rounds)

The only thing I do different for my heavy barrel target rifles is sort cases by headstamp and weight, and the use of expensive premium match grade bullets.

If SVT stands for Special Vehicle Team do you change your oil differently in a SVT than a family car? (not brand or viscosity)

Do you torque lug nuts on a SVT and not the Mini Van:D

My loading procedures are the same for scopes or iron sights. Never found extraordinary care to make a difference. It possibly would make a difference if I were a better marksman.

The SVT in my name stands for supraventricular tachycardia. Which is a extremely fast heartbeat. I'm a paramedic by trade. Lol

OH !: In the words of Emily Litella. "Never Mind" :D

The answer is still all the same.:)

Mine all get the same treatment also, I cant give away anything shooting open sights. I want every bullet to perform as well as I can make it.

I made the comparison between 9mm pistol rounds and 308 rifle rounds - probably not on target with the original question. If we are talking rifle rounds only, then I will load the same for all my rifles, scope or not.
