At what range does the rifle "take over"?

from the pistol, on fully exposed torsos, for you? In other words, inside what distance is the pistol faster, from low ready? No, you can't move/stay forever with the rifle on your shoulder! :) For me, it's 5 yds for the belt gun, 10ft for the pocket pistol.

If you are at "high ready", the rifle is just as fast as the pistol IF you are mostly facing the target. If, however, you have to pivot 90 or 180 degrees before firing, the pistol is still faster than the rifle, at the above ranges, even if the pistol is held in the low ready start position. I think it's inertia-related, just can't swing 6 lbs and 35" of gun as fast as you can 1-2 lbs, 6-8" of pistol, along with turning your body. Naturally, we shoot better when our ears are not being "blown out" by muzzleblasts.

But if the enemy is using cover, the bobbing head is a very difficult mark for the pistol, (as swiftly as it can be hit with the rifle) beyond 5 ft or so. The short-barreled 223 is still a fast-handling gun with an effective sound-suppressor mounted. A "can" on a powerful pistol turns the handgun into a clunk, basically. It's certainly no longer concealable, at least, not in a way that offers a swift presentation. So the suppressed rifle is a viable combat arm, the suppressed pistol is impractical. You can have a compact, lw, suppressed .22 hg, but then you have no stopping power, basically.

If the rifle is being carried on the "assault-sling", it's quite a bit slower to get hits with, even if you have one hand on the rifle. I can (sort-of) see having both hands on it,while having it slung, if fatigue has you needing rest for your arms, but it's still considerably slower than if you are holding it in "low- ready". Naturally, slung over your shoulder is very slow for a presentation, but it may need to be in that position, while you help a loved one, etc. Do you know what your times are for these "moves"?
Your thoughts?
