Avenging Angel snub nose revolver club

Anyone carry their Avenging Angel for CCW work?

I do, though I, like Texas Moon, bought one ready made. Mine from Taylors in .44.

I always add that I live in a pretty remote area and dont have to face the sore of issues that people in the cities do... Would I recommend it? Shrugs.. It works for ME is all I can say.

My first CCW was an ASM 2nd Model Dragoon. I was an out of state student in a big Eastern city. ;)
I carry a 'Stainless Steel' 1851 Pietta Marshall 44 when BP rifle hunting for the mercy shot (legal in my state).
I have a Pietta 1851 snub nose 'Shop Keeper' in.36, and also an 1860 snub nose 44 with the birds head grip.
Over the years, I've preferred the shorter, handier models from my modest collection. The Remington .31, I consider too modest, although it was fun watching Clint Eastwood dispatch the bad guy with one.
Making gun leather for them has been fun too.
Today I got out the 1858 Remmy target, to see about giving it the Mike Bellevue 3" Snubnose treatment. I'm not convinced it's the way to go. Seems like it will still be a big clunk of a gun even when it's trimmed down?

I have to say I don't like any of the Avenging Angels that are on the market. The Taylors one would be a little better if they didn't put those flutes on the cylinder of a style that does not exist on any gun of that era.
Before I started making them I had one of those 1860s without the flutes. I ended up selling it. If I had one now I would still cut it back shorter. I also despise the "Black powder only" marking on the side of the barrel.
I file every marking off including the proof marks. Usually I get rid of the serial number too and apply my own and put them in the areas they were on the original guns.
My latest one will have a two or three digit serial number.

I have an 1851 Brasser I cut down, not quite as short as yours, barrel is ~3.25 but like SHIPCHIEF says it is still a hunk of steel to carry even when cut down. I do have an OWB holster for it and it isnt unbearable to carry, but it is no where near as light as my LCRX.

I'm surprised one of the makers doesn't offer an AA-44 or AA-36. They have those STUPID "pepperbox" gun based on a '51 Navy frame, but they don't make an Avenging Angel??

My Pietta is from, I think, Cabela's. I got it when the first came out. Later they started making it with the rounded grip. This is the model that Taylors uses as the base for their version. I've thought about either making mine a bird's head or just buying a birds head grip and fitting it to it. But, I've found I don't like the feel of birds heads as much as I thought I would.

This looks like fun, could be a member of the Avenging Angels AND the Walker clubs at the same time!

A converted Dragoon might be better balanced?
I think the Colt 1851 is the best handling, and is my preference, except for the .36 Whitney navy which has the full Remmy style frame in a Colt 1851 Navy size & feel.
I have a rare ARMSCOR version, but the barrel is a bit crooked to the left. I guess in a duel, your supposed to give this one to the other guy? ;)
Also, the trigger guard is a bit small, fits tight around my finger. A nice Dragoon style square back trigger guard would make a proper replacement.

A little more work done on this one. The polish is about done and I've applied a new serial number in the proper locations. Almost ready to send off for plating. Then I have to have the hammer, trigger and screws fire blued and then sand the grips down, stain and oil.

WOW!! all of this makes me want one!! just got too have one. i think they are KILLER, pardon the pun.

Always love these home brew avenging angels they are always so good looking I'm just waiting to find a nice beater to take a angle grinder to

Does anyone offer a conversion service to make Avenging Angels? I might consider sending one of mine off...

Got the grips sanded down and ready for stain and linseed oil

Mounted a brass bead style front sight post

The hammer trigger and screws are all off to be nitre blued and the rest of the parts are off to be nickel plated. Now I just have to wait for all the parts to come back and I can get this thing back together!

I spilt a barrel on an 1860(cause has never been determined). I sawed the barrel off at about 3 inches with the purpose of making an "Avenging Angel". One trip to the range and a paper target convinced me to leave it alone. Not a group, you could not even call it's performance a pattern

Did you put a front sight on it and crown it properly?
