I am looking at 16 inch barrels from Faxon and Wilson Combat that are about the same cost and weight. Both seem to have a good reputation. Any reason to pick one over the other? Other brands known for high quality/accuracy without costing more than my first car?

This will be 6.5 grendel. Already have a 20" heavy barrel and it is great for longer shots where you aren't covering ground, but I want a shorter, lighter package as well.

Grendel is a great choice. I have a few Grendel pistols: 10.5" and 12.5" that are very light and portable and still get good velocity. If you don't want to go the AR pistol route, then your original choice of Faxon might be a good choice with this lightweight match 5R "gunner" barrel:

Don't want to go the pistol route for various reasons. It is either that barrel or this one from Wilson:

I would prefer the Wilson Combat. They do tend to have tight chambers though.

I recently built 2 uppers using Faxon barrels. Wasn't impressed. Tore them down and went with Ballistic Advantage in one and Criterion in the other. BA is pretty much my goto for bang for the buck. I just wanted to try Faxon since I heard so much about them. At least now, I can say been there, done that.
