I came across a Benelli Ethos 12 gauge today and really like it. It's in budget, any reason to reconsider? Thanks.

It will be my primary pheasant and other upland game bird shotgun.

I have one -- it's a nice looking (it has real wood not the fake looking stuff they have used on other models), light, reliable gun. Two criticisms: the recoil system is mostly marketing hype and the trigger should be better for this level of gun. I would include a trigger job in the cost/value equation when buying it. I don't find the recoil objectionable for the weight of the gun but it definitely is nothing revolutionary over the other systems they use on lesser models.

I've had my eye on one for awhile now so will be interested in feedback. I have a Benelli 20 ga Legacy and a 12 ga Competition which is similar to the Legacy in trim and finish. I love both and really like the looks of the Ethos.

I have one Bikemutt and I absolutely love it. If the price is right, I'd say go for it. Like atomchaser said, the recoil system is mostly marketing hype. However the Ethos is amazingly light and after 200 rounds of sporting clays, I still feel pretty fresh, so I guess it does something. My buddy at the LGS gave me a hint though, don't over tighten the magazine cap. If you do, there is a possibility of cracking the wood fore-grip. I don't know if it is true, I just want to pass along what I heard.

Thanks team THR, I'm going to the LGS tomorrow and will make my final decision then.

I got to shoot a cheaper version of the inertia action this week, a Franchi (by Benelli) auto-loader, at trap. Using range fodder I found it to be quite pleasant to shoot. It wasn't quite as soft was my Beretta gas gun but the Beretta is not nearly as light weight as the Franchi.
