There's a guy on Gunbroker.com claiming that Beretta 92 mags will work with an XD9. Any truth to this?

dont know about baretta, but
S&W 41 mags will operata 100% in a SIG Trailside.

I have a Springfield XD 9mm compact and Beretta CX4, which utilizes the 92 series Beretta magazines. They’re not interchangeable. The Berretta mag's do not lock into place in the XD magwell and vice-versa. The magazine lock cutouts on each magazine are on located in different areas.

I can see where a mag for a Beretta 92 would not fit a Springfield XD9 Compact. If I'm not mistaken, the grip of a compact is shorter than the grip on the service or tactical.
I've got the Standard, and am wondering if the Beretta mags will fit a Springfield XD9 Service.

When the XD was introduced before the sunset of the Federal AWB, SA sold Beretta pre-ban mags for use in it.

Stupid question, but why not just use the Springfield XD mags made for it?
Mags are the weakest link in the chain in any semi-auto pistol.
And fudging on fit or quality to save two bucks just doesn't add up on my calculator.

I believe you have to modify (cutting notch into mag body) the Beretta 92 magazines to lock-up in a XD9.
Some states like NY, allow possession/use of pre-'94 ban large capacity magazines. The HS2000/XD9 was made after the '94 ban.

The interesting thing is that on Midwayusa.com 92mags are 39.99 while XD9 mags are 29.99 so it would not save you any cash.

i have heard stories about that, but i am a huge fan of going factory, or high quality aftermarket when it comes to semi auto guns, and ssince there are no qaulity after market xd mags that i have found, i stick with the factory sa mags.
i do know however that 9mm xd's will run all day long using 40 mags, and 9mm ammo in them of course.

The point was (again) to be able to have 16 round mags for your XD during the AWB.
This is still an option for New Yorkers and other poor people afflicted with a state level AWB.

Not a stupid question at all. I'd not been able to find any XD9 mags, but stumbled upon some cheap factory Beretta 92 mags (beat all to crap, but allegedly functional). Anyway, I passed.
that really is interesting, maybe i'll have to look into getting an XD to try out. i have a bunch of beretta mags..the 10 round 96 mags run fine in a 92 too

Well, I guess that answered that question! On a side note, the Beretta 92 mags are identical to Walther P88 mags too, with exception of the mag release hole. You can cut a single hole in a 92 mag for the P88 catch, then use them in either weapon...for those of you who can't find the $100+ P88 mags.

Yes, the Springfield XD was in many ways an answer to high priced Glock mags during the ban. In effect the XD was sort of a "Glock that took Beretta mags." Figure $34 for a Beretta mag vs. $80 for a Glock mag. Quite a deal back in the day.
As quoted above, you need to drill a new mag release hole to get the mag to lock into place. The follower will work correctly. I don't know about the base plates. You probably need to change them out if you want them to "look ok". On the other hand, you could use the Beretta mags in both your XD and say, a Kel-Tec Sub2K that took Beretta mags. You could use a 20 or 30 round Beretta mag in your XD as well.
