I will soon be taking my 48 hour class for armed security and have been to several gun shops checking out the SA/DA semi-autos. Sigs are very nice, but too expensive; Glocks are not my choice because these are DAOs and I prefer SA/DA; Beretta Px4 Storm (45 ACP) is my choice for a sidearm. I like the Beretta reputation of superb quality and reliability, the Storm design, and how this handgun feels in my hand.

I talked to the dealer about the Superluminova sights on it and he had no clue as to whether these were or were not luminescent sights (a clueless gun dealer, go figure). Do all Beretta P4s come with Superluminova sights?

MSRP = $575
Local Shop = $639
Is this reasonable? I understand there's a markup in price between the factory and dealer. Afterall, the gun dealer has to make his profit too. I believe the price tag is very good.

Does anyone own a Beretta Px4? If "Yes", could you give me some feedback? I would appreciate your input.

Thank you

Here's mine. I have it for sale locally but would consider shipping. Its a great firearm but I just don't shoot it for uspsa...I like Limited class and just love my STI so the PX4 just sits in the safe. If your interested send me a message and I'll tell you the price.

And NO, that is not a reasonable price by any standard. Bud's has em delivered for just a tad over 500.

The PX4 is a great all around pistol. If you were going to get one firearm for home defense and occasional ccw it would be a fine choice.

Beretta PX4, mags, BladeTech holster, S. Fl.

This is a great shooting PX4 with less than 200 flawless rounds through it. Polished trigger components...super smooth and light Double action. Included is a Blade Tech holster...used once, and 5 mags. My intention was to shoot it in uspsa Production Class but I just like Limited class so much better and don't ever shoot it. Its just sitting in the safe and needs a good home!

Get the PX4 45 you will love it. I paid $529.00 for mine and it came with 3 mags. Pops

Babalouie, I don't fully understand what "uspsa" means. For all I know, it means "United States Postal Service Action", but am not 100% certain. You didn't go postal with this, did you? :neener: Another thing is you're in Florida and I'm in NY. You might have what's considered by NY to be "High Capacity Mags", meaning, magazines exceeding a 10 round capacity. I don't know.

This will be my first ever 45 ACP. I'm learning all I can about the ballistics right now. From what I've gathered, the muzzle velocity is only 850 - 900 fps. This is much slower than 9 mm, however, who cares when dealing with distances out to approximately 25 yds at best? Neither pistol round is going to penetrate bullet resistant body armor anyways, so why not go for the real "bruiser round"? I'd much rather have the stopping power of the heavy 45 round within that 25 yd boundary.

Ha! uspsa stands for United States Practical Shooting Association...its the run and gun action shooting sport...and its the most fun you can have with a gun. Here's a pic of my son taking Gold in the Florida Sunshine state games with a S&W M&P (yes, I am shamelessly bragging:evil:) Here's a link if you're interested. http://www.uspsa.org/

Yep, .45 is a great round. My PX4 is a hicap .40 so I guess you can't have it in NY.

Again, the price you quoted is way, way high. Buying a gun online is really quite easy and Bud's is a reputable gunshop. Its easy to find a local gunshop that will accept gun being shipped to them and doing all of the necessary FFL transfer paperwork. $20 to $30 is fair for the ffl requirements and is usually added into the prices you see in retail shops. This means that you could buy your PX4 from Bud's for $507 shipped, plus 25 for FFL transfer fees. So, $532 out the door before tax. (They may charge you a few bucks for a Fed. background check) You would save $107 to spend on a holster and/or extra mags. BTW, I am not associated with Bud's in anyway...I just use them as THE price check when I'm researching a firearm.

Superluminova sights are standard on all Px4 pistols. They certainly are luminescent sights, but with a catch. They do not glow under their own 'power' like tritium sights do. After being exposed to light for a length of time they will glow in the dark for a proportional amount of time. Think of glow in the dark paint, nail polish, stickers, etc. This isn't a big deal if the firearm is stored where light can reach it but guns stored in a drawer or safe won't have functioning night sights when you would probably need them most.

The $575 MSRP is for the 9mm and .40 S&W pistols. The .45 is a bit more expensive since it's a different, larger frame. Over $600 retail is still far too high a price for it, though.

Miked, I keep a small flashlight with the handgun on my nightstand. If ever there is a bump in the night, I will shine the flashlight on the sights for a few seconds to energize the superluminova. It will remain luminescent for approximately 15-20 minutes.

Well, I wish you well on that because what you are saying here is complete and total bull****.

Wow, Miked, that's a really harsh response to an otherwise helpful comment on Taurus's part. Its ok to disagree but as a new member here you need to fit into a community that is generally very positive. We all get enough hassle from the antis crowd without having to get flamed for having an opinion.

i loved shooting the px4. Low recoil and felt very comfortable in my hand.

To the OP: Retailers dont purchase inventory at msrp. They get it wholesale, which you have to have a tax id to get it at that price. So when the retailer sells it at msrp they still make a profit. That price you listed is overpriced, and if you could get it cheaper, Id buy it.

I have heard a rumor that Beretta has stopped making the PX4 in 45acp. I have not confirmed this. It may be internet misinformation.

May want to check at Berettaforum.net.

That may be why the price was so high.

Good luck

Fred

Yep, something is wrong with the Px4 line, that's for sure, as the Px4sc (sub-compacts release is now going on 4 months late and ongoing, still..

Enough of the recent new buyers of the just released full size Px4 45's are reporting trigger sting, the same report from many of current, and long-time owners of, Px4 40cals are having a serious trigger sting issue, as well as now some of the Px4 9mm owners are reporting on-going trigger sting with their guns..

The latest and newest bought Px4 45's, from around 10 reported owners, so far, 2 sold theirs because of right out of NIB trigger sting, and now a 20yr veteran of weapon usage has reported that his NIB Px4 45 thru 200 rounds, of both cheap Blazer, then he bought far better new ammo, and still his gun jams 60 times out of 100 rounds with both mags, and the slide has a sticking point, where it hangs up just before going into full battery..

Quality control, plastic frames that transmit harmonics especially on cold days to the hands, but mainly to the trigger finger of both, veteran shooters and new-comers, seems to say something about the Px4's have a flaw that all makes and calibers exhibit - far to much of, trigger sting, and quality control issues.

I would strongly recommend to anyone thinking of buying any Px4 to hold off for 60 days, as my Px4 40cal, and a few others, will be heading back to BUSA under the watchful eye of a VIP Beretta Rep, and taken to the head man in quality control, to hopefully find out and fix this ongoing problem for so many buyers/owners.

Time will tell both, to their concern, now that "many complaint voices" from over in the Beretta forum, along with the Beretta Rep, that responded, and will be back from Italy come the 19th of this month, as to their voiced concerns and IF they can, or will, fix the problems.

I've had my PX4 more than a year now with well over 2500 rounds through and I love it. It continues to be flawless.

Ok, here's the real problem. From all the gazillions of guns I had to choose from, I just had to pick the one handgun with the most issues involving magazine import and US Customs (1 in 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000). I'm going to be in my armed security training in mid-April... only thing is that I have to wait until early May for these .45 ACP mags to finally get into the market. I really need the third magazine in order to successfully complete this course. What can I do??? :banghead: Does anyone have any suggestions?

My PX4 .45 had trigger sting. I was worried about it for a bit, but I ran a few hundred rounds through it and everything smoothed right out.

Happily I am not familiar with "trigger sting"...what is this?
Evidently my PX4 doesn't produce it, whatever it is.

I'll take a stab at it:

Hold your hand out flat in front of you and then point with your index finger. Lift it about 12-14" above the edge of your desk, lightly swing down your hand and smack the tip of your finger upon the edge of the desk. It doesn't really hurt at first, but after about 20 times, it hurts. I also believe that the stirrup design of top of the trigger contributes to this "sting" by occasionally impacting the finger. When I was breaking in my PX4 I was thinking "oh crap, I'm gonna hafta take this thing back," but it went away.

Believe it or not, the XD has a slight trigger sting as well. Not near as noticeable as the PX4, but it is there.

Y'know, I've got to add that I really enjoy my PX4 but (there's always a but, eh?) I have a couple of small concerns about the design.

I already mentioned the stirrup of the trigger.

I'm concerned about the strength of the frame. There is considerable flex toward the right side of the frame due to a weak spot on the left. I'm also seeing wear on the top inside of the dust cover: Not good.

The frame has small dimensional deformations. The most noticeable is also on the right side. It swells out away from the slide by a millimeter or so. No big deal, but why?

Internally there is a mating surface that has a little prong of metal that looks quite vulnerable and weak. With very little effort I was able to get it to block (and slightly mar) the slide during re-assembly.

Small things, but they might turn into big things --Murphy's Law and all.

I have no idea what you guys are talking about the px4 having trigger sting. I put 250 rounds into a friends px4 in a matter of an hour and I didnt have any problems what so ever. I guess I have tougher fingers. :uhoh:
