My friend just lost her husband and wants to sell his shotgun. I haven't seen it but she says it is a Beretta under and over "Siver Star" special edition 1992.Never fired. If she is correct, ( I can't find one) anybody know what it would be worth?

The common Beretta O/U at that time was the "Silver Perdiz." Became the Silver Pigeon about 1995. I haven't heard of a "Silver Star" and it doesn't fit their naming systems I'm familiar with - but I'm not an expert. It certainly doesn't show up searching for it.

A picture or information off the box would help. Beretta values can very greatly on model and grade (of finish).

CALL Beretta for some help, sorry for the loss.
GUNBROKER.COM and AUCTIONARMS.COM are a start for pricing.

Update: I called the woman, turns out it is a Beretta 686 Silver Essential. Never fired. I Know, I know, that's not even close to what I posted but that's what I got from the woman. I'm sorry about that "It was a silver something"...:banghead:

The Essentail and Silver Essential were entry level guns Beretta produced for a few years. They were the same as the 686 but no engraving and very plain wood. Tere were probably other cosmetic manufacturing cuts too. I remember when they came out they were selling in the $450 price range new. I think Beretta had second thoughts about watering down their brand, so they discontinued them.

I've seen them ANIB at a couple of recent gun shows asking $800 for them. I don't think they were selling at that price though. If I was going to spend $800 on a Beretta, I would save another hundred dollars or so and buy a gently used Onyx.
