If you were planning to retreat to the mountains of West Virginia or northern Georgia, what would be the best gun to bring along?

Agreed, Marlin 30-30.

Though one my my relatives back there swears by a Savage 340 bolt action 30-30. He's killed a bunch of deer with it.

Hillbillies generally can shoot about anything. Grandpa did it all with a single shot 16ga., my brother in law used a Win .270, in his old age carries a Walther PPK, great nephew head shoots squirrels with a .22.

If I were planning as you said I'd take my AR-15. Otherwise I would take a bolt action .22 rifle. This is assuming reloading isn't required.

J.P.Sauer Drilling 12X12X30.06. Lil'Skeeter inserts in 20 ga and .410. A.22 cal insert for the rifle barrel. What else would ya need??? Got it all covered and all the guage and caliber chages fit in your coat pocket! The claw mount German scope has its own case and hangs from your shoulder.

Single shot 20g. I can take anything in those mountains. Now if anyone has seen the movie Wrong Turn then you want an AK with chest rig full of mags.

Yes.

A hillbilly would for sure use a double-barrel hammer shotgun once owned by his grandfather.

Everyone else would use a scoped .22 rifle for silent deer poaching and small game hunting!

I would definently take a 22 rifle, ammo is easy to carry and cheap to shoot. It used to be said in the Pennsylvania Game News that more trappers carried a 22 then any other gun. More bears were killed by trappers with a 22 than any other gun.

That was a long time ago but it is still good enough for me.

Get a factory & a website ASAP!

There is no way you couldn't make a fortune selling those things on the internet!!!

OUT - Standing in your field!!

Well I live in WV and am a Hillbilly, Redneck whatever you want to call us. I take it you want something for surviving in these "Mean Hills" so a 10/22 with a fixed 6X scope will give you enough accuracy and firepower plus the ability to carry plenty of ammo. I've killed everything I wanted to kill in a little over 60yrs in the hills and it ain't the size of the slug it's where you place it.

I know I would, but my 80-year-old uncle has it.

see, idunno about WV, but i'm a TEXAS hillbilly, and we're required to use centerfire weapons for hunting. I know a .22 will take whitetail, (i've heard... but surely nobody would do THAT...) but a .30-30 or even a .357 works. actually, a .357 levergun might do nicely...
