Highroaders,

A few weeks ago I made the choice to try carrying my full sized Beretta 92 - to my suprise, I was much more comfortable carrying it than my PT-111 Pro! I liked how the majority of the gun was below the belt line, and it felt like if I had to run with it of if I go into an altercation, I wouldn't have to worry about it coming out.. .My PT-111 Pro just doesn't feel right - now enough of it is below the belt line and when my love-handles push against it (Yes, I know, TMI!), it feels like if it's hit just right that it could be knocked out of my pants if the grip is hit just right.

So anyhow, I carried the Beretta for a few weeks, wiping it down daily with a silicon cloth, and twice a week I'd give it a light coat of oil.

Much to my dismay, the hot Florida sun got the best of me this last Saturday and I was sweating like a hot pig in the summertime (it's a saying - yes - I know - pigs don't sweat!). That evening when I took the pistol out of my holster, the entire side of the slide that rides closest to me was covered in surface rust.

I was able to remove the rust pretty easily, but needless to say, I will not be carrying it again .

Because of how comfortable I felt carrying that large of a pistol, I am wanting to find another medium/full to full sized high-cap pistol that has exceptional rust resistantance. No - don't mention refinishing - because I won't ship my guns and there are no refinishing places near me - that simply isn't an option.

I am considering the following - but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! If you make a suggestion, please explain why you feel that would be a good choice.

Considering:

S&W M&P 9, 40, or .45 - Melonite over Stainless steel slide.
Glock in any 9mm or .45ACP flavor - Tennifer finish (I never thought I would even consider a Glock - I HATE the grip angle!)
SA XD 9mm ,40 or 45 - Melonite slide (if I went with .45, I'd have to go with the "Compact" - which is their Service size with the optional short mag.)
Beretta 92 Stainless - Stainless still rusts, but not as easy as the 92 in "Bruniton"

All suggestions considered!

Thank you in advance!

My vote for the money and for a weapon that is easy to conceal would be the XD45 compact, because if fits my hand, holds 10+1 for carry, and 13+1 for the range and everywhere else. They have a good record, mine is 100% reliable so far, and it handles like a full size handgun, which is what Springfield advertises, it is 2 in 1. I prefer the way it feels over a Glock, but it's all just preference and the weight is better than the Berretta, as well as having a much shorter grip. I also don't like slide mounted safety's. The M&P's are nice but not quite as concealable as the compact XD45, and it holds the same, in 45 that is. Go with what feels right to you is always good advice.
Good Luck and Be Safe!

I'll be watching this thread with interest. I'm a new transplant to Florida (Gainesville) from Oregon, and my S&W 4043 is just too big. Looking at 4056, 4053 or 3913 as options. Of course, Glock too. Would consider a P2000, the one I held was slightly smaller than my 4043. M&P compact is also another option, the 9mm holds 12 rounds. I would also consider the 6900 series of pistols again, but I left the 6946 to scale up to the .40. Mike

BTW, I used to carry my 92 Brigadier pistol in a Blade-Tech IWB so I understand your pain.

Walther P99 AS or QA depending on the trigger you or looking for, or if you want a little smaller go for the P99c. I carry the P99c AS 9mm in a Comptac CTAC holster, and I live in Florida.

Also look at the Hk P2000 or P30, and the P2000SK if you want something a little smaller. With the P2000 and P30 you can choose the standard DA/SA trigger or a Glock like LEM trigger.

You can also look at the Sig P229, DAK is their Glock like trigger.

Finally take a look at the CZ-75 P-01, have gun Duracoated for rust resistance.

Oh picture of my carry gun:
