Highroaders,
A few weeks ago I made the choice to try carrying my full sized Beretta 92 - to my suprise, I was much more comfortable carrying it than my PT-111 Pro! I liked how the majority of the gun was below the belt line, and it felt like if I had to run with it of if I go into an altercation, I wouldn't have to worry about it coming out.. .My PT-111 Pro just doesn't feel right - now enough of it is below the belt line and when my love-handles push against it (Yes, I know, TMI!), it feels like if it's hit just right that it could be knocked out of my pants if the grip is hit just right.
So anyhow, I carried the Beretta for a few weeks, wiping it down daily with a silicon cloth, and twice a week I'd give it a light coat of oil.
Much to my dismay, the hot Florida sun got the best of me this last Saturday and I was sweating like a hot pig in the summertime (it's a saying - yes - I know - pigs don't sweat!). That evening when I took the pistol out of my holster, the entire side of the slide that rides closest to me was covered in surface rust.
I was able to remove the rust pretty easily, but needless to say, I will not be carrying it again .
Because of how comfortable I felt carrying that large of a pistol, I am wanting to find another medium/full to full sized high-cap pistol that has exceptional rust resistantance. No - don't mention refinishing - because I won't ship my guns and there are no refinishing places near me - that simply isn't an option.
I am considering the following - but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! If you make a suggestion, please explain why you feel that would be a good choice.
Considering:
S&W M&P 9, 40, or .45 - Melonite over Stainless steel slide.
Glock in any 9mm or .45ACP flavor - Tennifer finish (I never thought I would even consider a Glock - I HATE the grip angle!)
SA XD 9mm ,40 or 45 - Melonite slide (if I went with .45, I'd have to go with the "Compact" - which is their Service size with the optional short mag.)
Beretta 92 Stainless - Stainless still rusts, but not as easy as the 92 in "Bruniton"
All suggestions considered!
Thank you in advance!
