For anyone that said R.E.D, you'll have to explain... I thought it was insultingly stupid. Isn't there a scene where Malkovic shoots an RPG round out of the air!!!

Yeah, you're absolutely right. As someone who mentioned that they liked this movie, I must admit that it wasn't so much for the gun play (as this thread was about). I just plain enjoyed and was entertained by the film. It was more of an action-comedy than anything else.

Just watched Jack Reacher on the suggestions... Spoiler alert!

Let me save everyone some time. Don't bother....

I know this isn't a movie review site so I'll spare you the gaping plot holes and absurdities, and just say that they didn't even get ballistics and such correct and there's only 1 gun range for rifles nearby in Ohio. Get real. Someone should tell Cruise that he should close one eye when looking through a high power rifle scope shooting 1000 yards or whatever that distance was. Guessing someone told him that pros shoot with two eyes open and he assumed that meant with a rifle scope! lol. And of course there's no hold-over on the scoped rifle over the target even at long range... And finally, Bars alleged shots at that gun range were not that impressive... lol. HUGE groupings for someone that fired 2000 rounds per week in the Army and was an expert sniper with 2 combat tours!!! And the "stun gun" in the movie - well that's simply not how stun guns or even tasers work on people. Theatrics. And good Lord that assault plan at the end was insulting...

I will just say this super soldier - as Reacher is marketed- gets snuck up on a lot and doesn't know how to pit out another car... which I found odd given he was a veteran Military Police officer. As a final point that female lawyer has no legal ethics and he little stunt at the end would get her disbarred... (assuming it didn't play out like she thought and the client complained)... good grief. Save your time folks...

I liked it, especially being a Pittsburgher.

The only think I hated was that it had Tom Cruise in it... because as a reader of the books, Jack Reacher needs to be around 6'5" and 240 pounds or something. He needs to be a womanizer, coffee drinker, and slick talker.... normally not the Tom Cruise kinda character.

Another good one is "Lockout"... the premise is far fetched, and the bad guys use the typical "gangsta" style gun play, but I vaguely remember being impressed with the way Guy Pearce handled a weapon.

Collateral has Tom Cruise demonstrate some actual credible looking weapons handling. Michael Mann films generally tend to be pretty good about weapons and their use compared to typical Hollywood

I had seen youtube videos of him getting some professional training for the roll. It looked pretty intense.

A few more movies:

Key Largo, The Big Sleep, L.A. Confidential, Way of the Gun (one of the best gun movies period), No Country for Old Men, Training Day, Lone Star there are more.

Appaloosa with Ed Harris and Viggo Mortensen. A pretty good western that isn't widely known. Pretty authentic gun fights and Viggo carries an 8 gauge shotgun that pretty much ends most problems.

And Tremors 2 taught us a very important lesson from Burt's 50 cal. Over penetration is a bad thing. Lol. I never thought about it but that's covered in the 4 rules of gun safety.

I'd like to add Terminator 2. If you can get past the time traveling cyborgs, it does show a lot of accuracy for gun parts, from them having to reload to the stances and such.

All I can say is that if you are looking for "reality" in movies or TV You aren't going to see a lot. That includes about everything that happens in real life, not just guns, and it would be really boring.

When "Longmier" hit TV I became an instant fan. I read a comment from a resident of the state it's set in saying it wasn't realistic as they had very few murders at all. Well, how many people are going to watch a "realistic" show about a SO that basically catches a few speeders and gets stray cows off the highway. I'm still mad that it was cancelled.

Gun films....

I'm not a big fan of Jack Reacher. As a US Army MP(lower enlisted) veteran I can tell you both the feature film & the novel series(by Lee Child) are full of $&@% moments & completely in-accurate points. Both with weapons and US military/law enforcement protocols.
A real "Reacher" wouldn't be a commissioned officer & more than likely, he'd be in Fort Leavenworth KS displinary barracks.

I would agree The Professional(1994) is a top notch action film for gun owners & target shooters. :D
I haven't seen it yet, but I've read a lot of + buzz/good reviews(gun-tactics) of the crime thriller: John Wick.
I could only hope it's better than the sub-par Keeanu Reeves cop drama: Street Kings.

I hear Netflix picked it up to produce a season 4?

Good show, regardless.

Longmier was good.

But he got in way too many sticky situations with an uncocked 1911!

Even after the shooting started and he had already fired it.

I am looking forward to "American Sniper", but, I enjoyed both RED and RED2.

The reasons? ENTERTAINMENT! My wife of 45 years, is an emotionally anti-gun person, due to the unsuccessful suicide attempt by our teen-age son. 25 years later, he is doing well! :) I figure she is entitled. But, she does like Helen Mirren, with her being so elegant and all. The fur coat with the many built in holsters caused her the big eye, and she enjoyed Helen in the white evening gown, operating the .50 Browning in RED! She did enjoy those two movies.

Reality?:what: We were not raised with reality...Gene Autry westerns, Roy Rogers and a bad guy fencing with Winchester '94s on horseback in the middle of Southern California traffic,:what: The Durango Kid, Have Gun, will Travel, Gunsmoke...I could go on... and John Malkovich does crazy so well!:D

And...there isn't a single one of us who hasn't thought in his secret place..."Yeah...maybe I could shoot that thing out of the air... Right?:D

One of the really old GOOD ones is SERGEANT YORK, and I'd have to include BULLIT, if only for the car chase, and airport scenes.

It's worth the trip...especially when you get a Senior discount!;)

The one I like is on the western channel with John Wayne and his 13 shooter Colt .45.

Way of the gun was a sleeper that only caught my eye by mistake, and ended up being one of the more realistic movies using the 5 shot snubby, pump shotguns, and 1911's. The Mag reloads were realistic as was the scene with the auto fire going through the walls. Choice of weapons was excellent for the period. And gun handling was better than most.
Made me want another 1911 after watching it.

I found that Netflix announced back in November that they had picked up "Longmier" for a 10 episode 4th season which will air in 2015. GREAT!

I grew up on Gene and Roy and all the others. Not going to get my unies in a wad over mistakes at this stage in my life even if Longmier did or didn't cock his 1911. :D

Movies

Quigley Down Under. Probably the worst of the three movies I've listed, but it does show what could be done with black powder at long range.

What is wrong with QDU? The scene with the horseman and the bucket is worth the whole thing.

Add in "The Ghost and the Darkness".

And then there is this one - really short and from YouTube:
