Let's turn the other question around somewhat: What's the best "off brand" handgun you've ever owned (assuming you've ever owned one).
Mine would be the Llama Comanche III 4" .357 I bought new when I was 17 (my mother did the paperwork thingie). Wal Mart still sold pistols then (it was 1985), and they had a Smith 19 for around $235 or the Llama for $176. Being a nearly broke teenager, I opted for the Llama, and it turned out to be a very good revolver. Was nicely blued, perfectly timed, pretty accurate (I once shot a skunk with it, rapid fire double action, at about 50 yards, and hit him 3 out of 3 shots -- I can't shoot better than that with any gun), and it had a nice cam system that prevented the hammer from contacting the internal firing pin when it was at rest.
I eventually sold it to my brother, who still has it and uses it as a vehicle gun, keeping it in the pickup he uses to check the gas wells he's responsible for.
