What is in your opinion the best polymer 9mm out of the box? I know it can take a few hundred rounds to tell if your gun is working like it should but I don't get to go to the range a whole lot so it may take me sometime to put a few hundred through it. In the mean time whatever gun I get I want to know that I can depend on it even with just a limited amount of ammo through it. The guns I'm looking into are the M&P 9mm, Beretta Px4 Storm 9mm, and the Ruger SR9. I thought about the Glock 19 but I just shot a Gen 4 G17 and I didn't like it. It didn't fit me well. So Glock is out. Any thoughts on the three mentioned?

out of your three mentioned I would pick the M&P 9mm.

Also, try the Glock 19 before you rule it out. The 17 and 19 feel quiet a bit different to me. I love the 19 and would suggest it to anyone wanting out of the box reliability and accuracy.

Just curious...why rule out the xdm? Also may need to try the glock few more times...one can learn to shoot any gun with practice...

Sorry but IMHO you removed the best out of the box polymer 9mm. Glock 19. What was it about the gen 4 17 you did not like? Sometimes the Glock grip angle does not fit well but IMHO the 19 is worth the time to put in your hand to make sure. You should also try a gen 3 gun if the 4 does not work.

In the ed you need to go with the one that feels best in your hand. These days I will only get guns which point naturally in my hand.

I would suggest the XDm or FNX-9, both of which can be tailored with different backstraps to fit your hand. Mine have gone BANG every time (so far).

Exactly, rellascout, I can't stand the feel of the Glock either, even though work forces me to carry one. :) My personal best out of the box polymer pistol is hands down the CZ SP-01 Phantom, best shooting most accurate one I've tried yet, and I qualify with a Glock every year.

I am afraid the word right out the box means no clean and lube, directly go to the range from the store, if that applies, the only gun that I have can run no problem is the Glock. My Ruger Sr9 need fair among of good clean and lube, so as the CZ and Beretta M9.

In the best polymer pistols , I've had several Glock pistols with no problems with any of them. I bought new an S&W M&P 9 full size. One thing about it is that it was more prone to striker channel debris and would get light strikes if not cleaned regularly. Also on my 2006 version ,the feed angle of the bullet and bore were off by a noticable margin ,with the bullet nose looking down and not directly in line as in my Glocks. This made the pistol not chamber some rounds or have hang-ups against the feed ramp instead of feeding smoothly . Also after market parts are easily found on the web for Glocks.

I like the CZ 75 P-01 but I heard that over time the slide to frame fit becomes loose. Is this true?

Before you decide on those you listed you really need to check out the Springfield XDm. With the interchangeable backstraps you can tailor the gun to fit your hand and the XDm has a Match Grade barrel for accuracy.;)

Best out of the box would be my XD9 Sub-Compact. Did not clean it prior to shooting a 150 rounds or so. I have since run 1000 rounds with not even one problem. I mean nada. I will get another full size XDM next. My best pistol yet. Hence my Moniker

No..I've had one for years, and I shoot the heck out of it...It's been flawless...aside from that,PO1 isn't polymer..

Any modern name brand polymer gun will be just fine.

I agree with this. Find something that feels comfortable or that you like for one reason or another. In the end its like debating the difference between a Honda and a Toyota.

the sig pro 2022 is the best out of box polymer out of the m&p xd and glock. those are the ones i've shot and i liked the sig by far the best, and it's probably the most inexpensive.

Beretta PX4 Storm F. I have one along with the matching CX4 carbine. Excellent shooting characteristics, nice trigger, low recoil. Factory 20-round magazines available. It also has interchangeable backstraps and offers easy tear-down.

The most reliable, no-excuses handgun I've ever owned has been a G-17 Glock. Never a stumble or a bobble, period.
I realize that if it doesn't fit, you'll have a problem, but I wouldn't discount it too quickly. If you want something that has to work, even if it gets ignored most of the time, the Glock is the way to go. The relatively small contact points between the frame and the slide is part of the reason for the very forgiving nature of the Austrian.

M&P9 is, IMHO, the best of breed.

FOR ME it points the most naturally and has the lowest recoil.

Any of the guns you're looking at are going to be reliable and accurate. They are all well made guns.

Best value, is the SR9. It's a gun that can competes on equal ground with M&P, Glock, XD, etc... but costs $100-150 less.

Others have said it, but it's worth repeating:

Any modern handgun from a reputable company is just fine. That includes every one you listed, plus XDs, XDms, sigs, czs, or darn near anything else you find at the store.

Just get the one that "speaks to you" or feels right in your hand.

The Ruger SR9 is a great pistol, but the BEST polymer out there is the Walther P99.
