I have been using a Caldwell rear bag for years but it is not tall enough and I have to use a 2x4 under the bag to make it tall enough. I am 6 ft 4 and am looking for advise on better rear bag for rifle shooting.

Which application? I love the OG Gamechanger from Armageddon Gear for prone shooting, especially because it doubles as a front bag for lots of other field supports. But it’s not at all appropriate for benchrest competition or F-class. For bench use, Edgewood all the way.

Im curious about this also, ive been using socks full of rice for .....ever....just started considering getting decent bags a few weeks ago.

It depends on your stock. Fat bottom fiberglass and a skinny metal chassis will need different bags sometimes.

I still like the str8laced bag for use in the field with stocks designed to run on a bag.

However for shooting groups I agree the game changer is fantastic. I use it a lot. But it is heavy.

I’ve always used a Protektor at the bench but I only own sporters and it’s always been less than ideal. I’ve considered (though lazy about) building a wedge that pins through the swivel stud to present a horizontal stock to the rear bag. Easier I suppose to spring for a monopod.

I use a Protektor DR at the bench with my custom 40x. I special ordered it to my specs. It is perfect for my application.

Either accuracy first, or make your own. It requires a surplus BDU sleeve, scissors, a sewing machine, and a container of airsoft pellets.

probably the best bag i made on my own, i bought a yard of neon greenish yellow spandex at a fabric store and used two layers of it to make a bag and filled it with play sand. (heavy)

it was fantastic to shoot off of, but was way too heavy to carry around everywhere and as the spandex stretched, it allowed dust from the sand to escape, so if you like, dropped it on the ground and picked it up, it would leave a little circle of dust.

I'm starting to accumulate rear bags.

My latest was an edgewood mini gator. These bags come in multiple heights and ear spacings so make sure you understand what will fit your rifle best. You can call them and they will help you with the process.

They'll also make one custom for you if you need that level of refinement
