We often see post by people talking about their "birth year" guns, but I don't remember a whole thread devoted to the topic.

My birth year is 1956, and I have a Springfield M1 Garand in the 5.9 million range that probably came out of the armory in the second quarter of 1956. I have also been keeping a look out for a first year S&W Model 29 as well. Other than the 29, I am not sure what other guns first saw the light of day in 1956. It is difficult to wrap my mind around the concept that every gun manufactured in my birth year is now a "Relic" and can be purchased with a C&R license.

What guns date from your birth year? Can you post serial number ranges for that year? Can you identify guns that saw their debut the year you were born?

I've thought about this as well. I'm 1957 and I have S&W M60 that may qualify, as well as an M1 Garand. Need to do a little more research.

Good Topic!

I also have a '55 Garand as my birth year gun. For that simple reason (among several other reasons), that rifle proudly sits front and center in the safe. More recently, I bought one of the Chinese T53's that was manufactored in Oct '55 (my month & year).
So, would it be sin to set the "Yankee Killer" next to the M1?

Well, the CZ-75 debuted in my birth year; I own a P-01, which is a) probably my favorite gun, and b) at least based on the birth-year gun.

I was born in 1986 and my CCW is an early Ruger P85 (pre MKII) era that I believe the original owner purchased in one of the first years it was out.....and I bought it the day after I turned 21 so even if it isn't exactly birth year for me its darned close and I'll probably never get rid of it.

I was also born in '86 and although being significant in firearms history for all the WRONG reasons. I dont know of any guns that debuted that year. Was the P85 new in '86?

I don't have any guns made in 1959 that I know of but, I do have two Colt Pythons (a 4 inch and a 6 inch) made in 1978. That was the year I graduated High School.

This nickle plated Colt Trooper MKIII .357 mag , was made in 1974, and purcased the same year, shortly after I was born.My most prized gun for many reasons.

I'm a 1950 model. My father bought this little Hi-Standard GB right around or shortly after the time I was born. (poorly lit pic, poor scan) http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-7/1052094/32187324-picture.jpeg
He shot it very little, but I claimed it after he died back in '98, and I shot the blue off the rails. Sometimes when I shoot it, I can feel him standing behind me, his arms across his chest, his head back a bit, and he approves...

I don't have any 1961 guns. The closest I have to a birth year gun (as in it was manufactured that year) for someone in my family is a Finn M39 that had its receiver made 3 years before my grandfather was born.

I do have a bit of a claim to fame - I was born exactly (to the day) 50 years after the US Army officially adopted the Model 1911. I proudly carry a much, much younger version of that gun.

My Jeep debuted in my birth year, but I cannot think of a single model of firearm that debuted that year (and I'm reluctant to say...it's later than the '50s, to be certain!)

Wonder what I should get for '89... though unfortunately I'm not old enough to buy a handgun from a dealer yet . Any suggestions?

I hope 1976 was a better year for guns than it was for cars

It was if you like Rugers, and they're easy to tell apart from those made before or after '76. since they bear a rollmark along the lines of "Made in the Bi-centenial year of our nation's founding" (if this is incorrect, it's my memory's fault and the gist is the same)

My father has a '76 production Security-Six that's as good today as the day he bought it. and if he ever sells it he's in trouble cause i want it, if only for the roll-mark show that it's the same age i am.:)

that's a sweet 1953

I have two S&W model 10 round butt snubbies from 1967 (the year I was born). I actually found one NIB a few years back, the other has seen a bit more use, but it's the sweeter one--extremely accurate and oh so smooth (of course the other might well smooth out with more use). They are my favorite 38 snubbie I must say. The j frames have their place, but the k snubbies are such *****cats with +P's...
