blackpowder gun to get

You are going to need more money.

Shooting is an expensive hobby. You will need powder, a measuring device made for the job (sorry, using empty shells just seems like a bad idea for a new shooter to me. To easy to make a mistake.Powder measures are not that expensive.) caps hearing and eye protection.

Look at Cabelas or Dixie Gun works for a revolver. I think you will be happier in the long run with a brass frame Remington 58 as a "cheapest gun" choice. It is going to be far earier to clean than a colt clone. If you can get more money though, get a steel frame.

Read lots of books, ignore people who don't know what they are doing, and go slow. You will be fine.

Assuming you own nothing for this hobby you should expect to spend $250-$300 to get shooting
That includes the cost of the pistol.

Get a good book like the Lyman black powder book and take your time loading

also remember The powder goes in BEFORE the ball:eek::cuss:

That CO2 device is really worth having for those screwups (Voice of experience talking here)

1858 is a good revolver to start with
IMHO Uberti is better than Pietta by a long shot

Doing it is how you develop the talent.

Soon your fingers themselves will know just how to stroke that file to remove .005 inches from a piece of steel.

And Straight.

And Square.

"Those revolvers are big, bulky and prone to chain fires."

I guess I don't consider a '51/'61 Navy big or bulky. Long maybe, but not big. Now, Dragoons and Walkers are BIG. And maybe also a Ruger Old Army could be called big. But even the '58 Remingtons are very streamlined compared to some modern guns.
