A couple of weeks ago in another thread I stated that I had just had my SP's hammer bobbed. A couple of you wanted to see the results. Well here it is.....

Brought that concern up with the smith and he said if anything the strikes would be harder. I’ve used two different brands of ammo since the bob and have had no probs. Since the bob I’ve found it much easier to draw too! No more snagging on the clothes.

A light spring makes for light strikes. A lighter hammer, with the original spring, makes the lock time a tad faster, and actually improves the hammerstrike, to that small extent. Broken in, and possibly smoothed a bit, the SP101 can be a superb DA banger. Looks nice, too.

If I put some pull on the trigger, as the hammer raises I can cock it with my thumb and use it SA. But, I practice exclusively DAO and seldom if ever shoot it SA. Thanks for the compliments all.

That sure looks nice. I am a big fan of bobbed hammers on short barreled revolvers.
I had S&W rework a three inch Model 65, and had them convert it to DAO, with a factory bobbed hammer.
I agree, lock time is fast, and there have been NO FTF at all.

Safety note: if you ever cock it SA and then need to de-cock, you MUST get the pad of your thumb all the way in front of the hammer versus just having it on top.

De-cocking such a piece needs to be a VERY heads-up and aware process indeed. It can be done safely, just...be careful, OK?

Jerry’s right, no lock on the gun.

Jim, exactly why I don’t use it SA. It’s not that hard to get it into SA mode but decocking is veeeery tricky.
