I recently purchased some ammo on Monday. First I'll start off by saying I don't hoard ammo and hate that others do, but I have enough boxes to last about four sessions at range. I bought my next years supply and did so in a hurry expecting a shortage and price hike soon due to the most recent events. Im curious how many others did, but probably know that answer.

Side note, I had to call the supplier and get credited the difference in sale price vs retail price they were gonna charge me. Apparently because of a glich in their system they were charging customers full price and not sales price quoted.

I don’t hoard ammo but I want to have enough in the event of a crisis and I can’t get any. I now reload so I plan my component purchases based on my shooting.

When I was building up my brass supply, I’d buy a box to shoot and a box as a spare. The idea is to have twice what twice shoot.

I now buy primers and bullets in lots of 1000 so when I use 500 I place another order. For my powder, I’m working up to be able to buy 8lb containers vs 1. Until then though I buy another pound when I use 1/2.

Of course if I have a few extra $$$ I’ve been known to pick up an extra pound of powder or 1000 primers.

People need to define what exactly an ammo hoarder it. IMO an ammo hoarder is one that buys up all the anno they can find and tries to re-sell it for a huge profit during a crisis.

I buy a little ammo here and a little ammo there(when it's in stock and plentiful). I've been doing it for years, next thing I know I have a crapload of ammo. I don't plan on reselling any of my ammo though.

Stchman I’ll respectfully disagree.

I see a hoarder as someone who buys all the ammo they can wit no intent of using it. So yes opportunistics who want to make a profit can be one type, the guy or gal who buys all they can but has no plan to ever use it is also a hoarder IMHO.

Now do t get me wrong. I’m all for a free market and people doing what they want but I’m also against waste and hurting others. So I do t like it if someone isn’t going to use it and hoards it making it so those of us who would can’t.

I’m also for people having enough ammo to get through shortages. And no I don’t know the exact solution except to buy what you need and extra when it’s available

I went ahead and got a little extra, just to be safe, on Monday evening. I was surprised that I was literally the only one in the ammo aisle at Wal-Mart AND Academy at the time I was there. Granted it was around 8-9pm, which was probably a big factor. Still, I'd say 80+% of the products I was looking at were well-stocked (probably comparable to any other normal day), so clearly not many others had been buying up ammo.

I reload also. I rarely have more than 200 rounds of any one caliber in pistol and 100 rounds in rifle. I have all the components I need and only 1 lb. powder canisters. I do a lot of testing and don't like having too much of any one caliber loaded and huge amounts of only one kind of components on hand. Have lots of different stuff. Primers are the only thing that I buy a lot of when I can as I only use 2 different brands. Right now small pistol primers are my only concern.

I have bought fewer than 300 center fire rounds of ammunition in my life. I reload pretty much everything I shoot.

I'm on the edge of retirement and to take the expense of reloading off the budget when my income shrinks, I have been laying in the components I anticipate needing for the rest of my life. And in that respect, I guess some might call me a hoarder, but if we use Hokie_PhD's definition, I would not be since I intend to use every last primer, bullet and grain of powder before I end up too feeble to be safe with a gun.

But, I haven't bought anything since the news of the Vegas shooting broke.

I've got plenty of ammo and reloading supplies to out last any ammo shortage during a Republican controlled white house,

If I ever had an interest in a Slide-fire stock, however, now would be the time to get one. I don't see them sticking around much longer.

The nature of the gun industry is that from time to time we see ammo shortages. Prices are currently reasonable, so there's nothing wrong with buying extra. I also reload and am set for a while. We have a LGS that has .22 at a good price, so when I find myself in the area I pick up a 500 round box or two. Anything I buy is for personal use.

I realized I was down to less than a brick of small pistol primers and I was light on HP38, so yesterday I went out and bought two of each plus a pound of H4198. Considering that I mostly shoot 38 special and trap these days, I would not call that a hoarding effort just trying to resupply before anyone else goes nuts. If I really thought we were in for it I would have put in an order for a couple of 8 pound kegs and 5 or more bricks of primers.

I placed an order Monday morning for 1000 rds of 124 gr 9mm, for my AR9 and 1200 rds of ZQI 5.56 62gr.. I fought them both on sale at Target Sport USA.
I do buy a good bit of ammo, but I also have a lot of guns.

I didn't buy any extra ammo because I do not like to shoot, therefore, I do not want to spend money for something I don't need. I did hoard 200 cartridges for my big game rifle because it is odd caliber and if they stop making it I will have some to hunt with.

Seriously though, my current supply and storage situation was designed to survive Hillary; I'm delighted it doesn't have to.

Same here. I enjoy being able to actually pass ammo by when I see it, and be able to shoot without thinking about what's gonna be left.

I buy when I find a good buy. I have a very good stock of ammo and components to load every caliber I own. I buy ammo to shoot not sell. Just like I buy guns to shoot not sell. I buy it I use it.

The never ending whine party of the anti gunners will not stand. The majority of American public does not support further gun control. I refuse to be part of another guns or ammo scare, or hoarding trend.

PS: I have a good supply of ammo. ;)

Oh, do tell. That is a strange thing to read on a gun forum. Are you just a collector or hunter?

Point of order - You have described profiteering , or opportunism , not hoarding. Hoarding means glomming onto and keeping , usually in excess. I am not defending any of those practices...

hoarders don't really sell it. Those are the people they call gougers, thou if you use the word gouge here, you'll get a rant on 'free market economics' by ten people who don't understand the nature of the subject is not subject to free market economics (subject to heavy regulation, with potential bans, and imposed limits driving the panic) Hoarder are those people sitting on 300,000 rounds of 22LR, and still camping out at Walmart to buy everything that hits the shelf, knowing fully well they'll never use it. That bulk grade ammo, sitting in an uncontrolled environment for years, adding a 1% increase in duds every year is what I see defining the hoarder. Same people tried to hoard 5.56, 9mm, even 45, 12gauge, but ran out of money to do so.
