British PM on knives.

"Extreme weapon powers..." "Zombie type knives" Sigh... The other day we'd been talking the various grinds and while interesting to look at, the compound grind was a ?? in practical uses. Yes, it can be useful for some though among us we felt a typical single straight bevel was more functional.

Since the folks in the UK have very restricted access to firearms… young men tend to go at it with blades (or boots… the old knock ‘em down and stomp routine…). As a result politicians wanting to be noticed find easy answers in the weapons themselves. Sounds all too familiar to me… and less than helpful- buts that’s always the case with easy answers to difficult problems.

No deadlier than an old chef's knife from the kitchen, which are probably a lot more sharp.

The United States has more knife attacks (murder) than the United Kingdom.

The numbers are low compared to other countries. Most South American countries have the most, next to Africa and some Caribbean countries.

It was proposed that kitchen knives in the UK now can't have points. No joke.
When I was there never felt anything but safe. I thought about buying a decent folder when I got off the plane, but never actually did.
Of course, that was the '90s. Better, safer time everywhere then. Used to be a great place to visit.

I felt pretty safe there but it was the late 80's or early 90-91.

I was married in London, all those years ago... still with the same lady 43 years now... Her side of the family still resides in the vicinity of London so I do pay attention to this or that from there. Mostly, I'd say the folks are a bit more civilized than we are -they actually do stand in line to get on the bus there (unlike the way we do that sort of stuff...) but every country has its unique troubles (while all of us worldwide are still what our species has always been...). Watching how politicians deal with various problems can be entertaining - particularly when you're not on the receiving end of those policies....

London has a knife problem due to demographics. Recent immigration trends has brought young men accustomed to using knives for criminal behavior and violent behavior. Other demographic trends include welfare (or the dole); in many families none one has ever held a job for the last four or five generations. This results in increased criminal activity.

Or, the most common factor for increased knife attacks is the lack of guns. If you can’t get a gun, and you want to rob, intimidate, maim or kill, the next best weapon is a big sharp knife.

“Duh”, what did they expect would happen when England outlawed most guns? Music videos of people holding hands singing Kumbaya would now top the record hit charts?

Actually, all progressive politicians today should get “Duh” tattooed on their foreheads. It could help reduce more stupid laws from being enacted.

Incorrect. That proposed absurdity was easily pushed back by professional and home chiefs.
You guys gotta do the minimal due diligence and look this stuff up instead of repeating proposed silliness and outright myth.

The knife in the OP's video would be illegal on the streets in most of the USA.

I don't know if "most" is correct. I haven't made a complete summary of all 50 states, but I surveyed the laws of about 20 states and only two of them had any open carry restrictions on length.

Do you guys really not understand this?

They're not trying to deal witk "Knife Crime" they're trying to disarm the population and they're doing a damn good job of it.

I think we understand it fine. They're not just trying, they are disarming the public. They always claim they're doing it for public safety but their actual goal is public control by eliminating their ability to resist. That's why I always want to know what Britain is up to cuz it's a look into our own future. Sound about right?

He doesn't have the stones to say that criminal gangs of illegal migrants have no place on their streets, so.....knives it is.

Considering both his parents are immigrants themselves, it isn't a matter of stones. But complacency. He wouldn't want to point the finger at "his people." Just like AOC, Talib, and other members of the "squad" don't talk about the elephant in the room of their people illegally hopping across the border and causing problems.

The UK is a perfect, beautiful case study on the absurdity of weapon regulation. They virtually outlawed firearms. Getting a hunting shotgun or rifle in the UK is much more difficult than the US and other EU countries. So criminals have gone to knife, acid, truck, etc attacks. The murder rate of London surpassed NYC this year. Both places have strict "common sense" gun control. Yet a lot of people die in both place. Hmm...I wonder why? Oh it must be racism. Or some other BS reasoning. And now they go after knives. The case study is firearms gone, they go after something else and call it "safety."

I met a very prominent Brit when I was deployed and frankly he is the only Brit I ever liked. Talked to him for a few hours before I knew who he was. A lasting thought he left with me was if he ever ran the country, he would allow citizens to own firearms in the UK. But the rulers of the UK would never allow that to happen so this individual knows that his desires for the country are just hot air. Quite sad knowing how much influence this person has in the UK but doesn't.
