My close friend just bought a Browning .22 semi automatic. Great little gun, and we can't wait to shoot it. We did the proper research, and got a good price. Before we bought it, we took a buddies out and shot it to make sure that it fit correctly and that she liked the feel. Noticed on his rifle that the end of the barrel was not blued. Did not think much about it as it was an old gun.

Now when we are in the store looking for the best piece of wood on one, we notice that all of the ends of the barrels are not blued. Opened every box they had, all the same. Like they cut it off, crowned it, and left it that way. Just the crown is not blued, the rest of the gun has a nice finish. Counter help was as clueless as we are on this one.

Why does Browning not blue the end of the rifle barrel??

I think all my other Brownings (non SA-22s) were blued on the tip when new.

BAR's used to come this way as well. Rest assured it's a sign great care was taken to crown that rifle. Browning crowned guns like that back when the fit and finish was even better than it is now. It's not a bad thing.

Some high end rebluing guys will even replicate the bare crown on a Browning. I consider it in the same league as jeweling a bolt. Just adds a touch of class.

All my Brownings are the same I believe. I have a center-fire BAR, an older BAR .22, a BL-22 and the same rifle you bought. I think they're all non-blue on the muzzles.

Wow, I could not imagine why. I am guessing that it has some sort of protective clear finish?

It must have been the same on the Acera when I got it, but put a brake on it within a few weeks, and must not have noticed. The buckmark stuff is all blackened. Must be a rifle thing.
