I can't find this in any book. I've gone through all mine, Hastings and Books A Million as well as the 'standard' library!

I've had this a couple of years, bought used from a local dealer that said it was a trade in. hardly shot and at $210 i thought it was a good deal.
Now I might trade at the local gun show, but I'm at a loss to ask a fair price. is this rifle rare? or just a pretty run of the mill 10/22..you see my dilemma.

it's a blued, 10/22. 18 1/2" barrel. it has the standard weight barrel, with a brown laminated stock I was told was from the factory. Steel blue buttplate, ser# is 282-88XXX, which according to Ruger's website puts her around 1990 vintage. We all know how serial numbers are, coulda been made last year!

any help appreciated. I can't find markings one to signify if this is an aftermarket stock or not. all the stock hardward looks similar to my 10/22 in walnut, just in a brown laminated stock. really pretty stock, and shoots like a dream as usual for 10/22s but i might go a trading tomorrow.

I'll get a pic up in a bit, my server is acting weird. I can send a pic easier if someone has an idea on this rifle.

thanks much,
KEN B

Rare as a dishonest politician

Without looking it up, it sounds like you have a run-of-the-mill, factory 10/22. If you have all the manuals and the box, it would be worth about $150, new. A gunshow dealer or any other, might give you $100, if he even wanted it. I'll give you $85 :D

I say don't sell it-you'll miss it when it's gone. There is a Rimfire Forum on the net somewhere, with every possible variation of 10/22 in it's own forum, so you can get some ideas of how a 10/22 can be "tricked" up.

Brand spanking new 10/22s don't generally go over $200 unless they the heavy barrel models. I think about $150 is pretty generlous considering that Wally World sells them for about $160 NIB

Sorry, ken, like the others have said, it sounds like you have a standard of' 10/22. Even if it does have a non-standard stock, it wouldn't raise the value much over the standard stock value. But, with the butt plate you described, it sounds like the standard stock.

Serial numbers on all modern firearms are pretty exact. If Ruger says it was made in 1990, you can take that to the bank. If a company started messing around with serial numbers they would have to answer some serious questions from the BATF.

With the 'factory' brown laminate, it could have been a special short or distibutor specific run that could have warranted a slightly higher price but $210 used is a bit steep. Is the stock the regular profile or is it a Sporter or International? IMO, I think it will be difficult to recoup all of that back if it is the standard stock profile. If that is the case, I would just keep it, mod it up a bit, and shoot it.

A used 10/22 for $210?! I bet that dealer is still grinning ear to ear. If it is indeed laminated and has a steel butplate, it isn't a cataloged model AFAIK. Sounds like perhaps it's one of the distributor editions. Even so, it still doesn't bring the price up very much - especially in used condition.

My suggestion....go to www.RugerForum.com na dput a post about this on the rimfire board there. Chance sare Ruger66 will be the one you want a response from. Really seems to know those 10/22's.
