i got this japanese made A5 auto 12ga deer shotgun in with several fire arms i bought and as we can,t use semi auto fire arms for big game here,i,m going to sell it and would like to get a few ideas on real world value. it is in ex working condition with a few hunting scratches and minor blueing wear from carrying, but no cracks in the wood or pits in the metal. it has a smooth bore 24" rifle sighted barrel and 2-3/4" chamber. i have fired it with slugs and buck shot and it works fine. thanks eastbank.

Hi. Friggin' barrels worth more than some whole shotguns. There's one on Gunbroker sitting at $325. The guns themselves seem to be running about a grand or so. Depends on who's selling it.

Locally, Japanese Auto5's with Invector barrels sell for less than seven bills in brick-n-mortar shops, and most fetch only $500 or so these days. Belgian guns do even worse - most can't sell for $400, even the Light 12s. Only the Sweet Sixteens seem to be retaining their collectable market value.

I've recently sold four of my Light-12's locally, and the prices that I got were disappointing compared their values 5-6 years ago.

You might consider that it's Japanese (collectors may prefer Belgian) and it's 2 3/4 (hunters may prefer 3") and it's not really cherry, but a hunter/shooter. Since you probably can't sell it locally, as you can't use it where you live, one of the auction sites would be your best bet. Probably around 650 to $700. Good luck.

thanks all, i was thinking 550-600 and maybe going to 500 for a quick sale. if i didn,t have a few rem 1100,s i would think about keeping it for a house gun. eastbank.

There are a pair of Remington Model 11's being sold locally, one with the vent barrel with poly choke, the other with a fixed Mod choke. When I first saw them the seller wanted $350 each, and the price has since dropped to $300, and they are still unsold. My local LGS has a fixed Mod choke Remington model 48 (pretty much the same gun, sans humpback) gathering dust on the used rack with a $250 price tag.

Being virtually identical guns, I'd expect prices to be similar.

Not a lot of people still go for the long recoil action semi-auto shotguns. Personally, I love my Remington model 48 with polychoke and vent rib barrel. I paid $250 for mine, and almost bought a Remington self loading shotgun (pre model 11) for the same price. Due to condition, I let the old Remington pass.

I see Browning A5s typically command slightly more than their Remington counterparts, but not by much. 20% maybe. If it were a Belgian Browning, that might be a different story.

Yours looks to be in really good condition, but I'd think $350- $400 tops.

Check out the GunBroker site or ones like it to see what they are selling for.

If you don`t need the money .....I`d hold on to it. Even if you can`t use it.
