Hey guys,

I have a Browning A5 12 gauge shotgun barrel made in Belgium. Special steel. 2 3/4" shells.

I am wondering if what I found is a bad thing for this barrel.

When I run my hands up and down the barrel, I can feel an area about 1/3rd the way down from the end that feels like there is a bulge in the barrel. It is an ever so slight ring shaped bulge that goes all of the way around the barrel.

Is that a modification done on the inside?
Is it normal?
Does it impact the spread of the shot when shooting the gun?
Is it because of the choke inside?

I am not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated, again.

It's likely exactly what it feels like - a bulge where the metal wall of the barrel was stretched (almost certainly by a shot column hitting a bore obstruction). I have shot a bulged barrel without injury or issue, but I'd not buy one that way if I could help it.

The choke is at the very end / muzzle of the barrel, and is an internal constriction that you cannot feel from the outside.

Thank You so much. I am still going to try to sell it as is, but I will most likely have to drop the price some because of that.
