Buck 119

The 119 is a classic Buck knife. I've always thought it much larger than needed for a hunting knife. It's a general use camp knife, or survival knife to me. They make a few with SV30 steel that IMO is worth the extra cost if I wanted one.

I had a couple, but let the others go and kept this one. They made a "Tactical" version a few years ago. The main reason I like it better is because of the stacked leather handle. I always felt the standard handles were too slick. I ditched the "Tactical" sheath and found traditional leather sheath in brown.

I have a few Buck knives my first a 110 I got when I was in high school back in the early 1970s the rest I've picked up over the years . recently I've seen some YouTube videos of guys modding the they're 119s . you know with lanyard holes cut down guards and blades. I'm not gonna do that to my 119 so I went to harbor freight and picked up the Gordon 6" 119 clone and went to work on that. drilled the lanyard hole filed down the top hand guard & filed down the clip point of the blade from clip to straight point sorta its about 5/16s or so shorter than it was . I just removed the part of the blade that almost always snaps off in the videos . the tip testing and battonning ones it still looks almost the same as it did just a little bit different. I like it

I have the same one. Was actually what got me into knives like I am with firearms. I have mostly folders, but have some nice fixed knives as well.

My Buck 119 will probably never see any hard use, the Cocobolo handles make it more of a pretty, show off piece for me. And that's just fine, haha.

I work in the courts, and knew of the bailiffs I've gotten friendly with makes custom knives, sheaths, and holsters. I've thought about asking him to make me a nice fancy sheath for my 110.

I currently don't have a 119. I have had a couple in the past, but swapped them. The next one will be here to stay. I field dressed my first deer with one. Why I parted with it... I haven't any idea.

If I get an actual user, I think I'll end up getting the version with S35VN steel and a micarta handle. Someone gave me the Harbor Freight knockoff that I use as a beater knife, and my cocobolo one I just can't bring myself to use much. To pretty, haha.

I'd probably drop down to the 117 Brahma though, I like about a 4-4.5" blade for general utility

You could look at one of the Buck Vangaurds. They have a bit shorter, but, "heavier" blade with different handle material available. They too are very nice knives.

Thanks! I'm actually considering the Pursuit Pro as well. Handle isn't as nice as the Vanguards but the S35VN piques my interest.

You can get a S30V Vanguard at Bass Pro/Cabelas if you don’t mind a coated blade.

Actually, not to deviate from Buck, but kinda thinking about an ESEE 4 in S35VN now...

If you’re wanting a hunting knife you may check out the ESEE Ashley Game Knife in S35VN, it’s on my list to add to the collection at some point.

Appreciated again. Looking for more of a utility/camping knife that could be pushed into hunting use if needed. Will probably end up buying a dedicated hunting knife if that ends up being a consistent need.

I do have a 684 Small Bucklite for a smaller "hunting" knife.

I've just always loved the style of Buck knifes, even if their clip points aren't the best utility blades.

I understand; I have a stable of Bucks on the shelf.

I butchered a couple deer with a 105 in D2 this year and really liked the blade, I just got a 117 that I like the size of, prefer it to the 119 as a general purpose.

I have a Vanguard that feels great in the hand bug I haven’t put it to use in the field yet.

I just got these three back from a cleanup at Buck. 20+ years of blades there
