Last I checked the introduction of optics hasn't produced a whole new level of scoring or a crowded field of High Masters.
The point isn't that better scores have been tabulated; it's that it's much easier to get them with optics instead of irons. Why else would competitors pay lots of more money for glass if they could just as easily get just as good scores with much cheaper sights? I've competed in Bullseye events since the early sixties and know that shooters who really mean to win are using optics; damn near all of them and for good reasons. Just visit the firing line at any major Precision Pistol match to verify the evidence of same.
