One of my Christmas presents was a Tikka T3 Lite .300 WSM rifle. (It included the scope rings, by the way, and they are of the 'short' variety.) To start breaking it in, I installed an old Simmons scope that I was not using.

Now I am considering a Burris 4.5-16x32 Short Mag Ballistic Plex scope (around $330), and wonder if anyone would care to comment on this choice. I have no experience with Burris scopes.

Thanks you for your time,

Nando

I have quite a few Burris scopes and their performance has been outstanding. The only scope in the Burris line that I don't like is the Short Mag. It does have an excellent eye relief, but it lost much of the field of view and it's not that great in low light. Get one of the full sized scopes.

I would suggest making sure the short mag scope is long enough. The Tikka uses a long actoin regardless of caliber. If the scope is to short, the bell of the scope might be where your front scope ring is. Good luck

Actually, the main reason I am interestd is that this one has the longest eye relief I have found within my price range. Also, the smaller objective will allow it to better fit the rifle with the rings it included. According to the Burris website, these scopes were designed with this application in mind. But then again, marketing gimmicks are a dime a dozen...

I looked at one earlier this afternoon at Cabela's, and yes, the eye relief was great, and the field-of-view would not be a concern to me. However, I really couldn't appreciate its performance in low light. I know that the smaller* Ø32mm lenses would not be as good, but when you said that this one is not great in low light, did you mean this specific one, or any Ø32mm in general? (*All the scopes I have are either Ø42mm or Ø44mm, so I don't have a basis to compare.)

Excellent point. I just now downloaded the scope dimensions, and it will fit nicely without having to move the rings from where I have them now.

Thanks!

I own a couple of Burris scopes and think they are great, but as stated above, you may need to measure your rings to make certain it will fit (if not, Burris as other options), I also own Leupold, Ziess and IOR. Burris is a 9/10 on my scale for quality scopes.
