Bushmaster Carbon 15

I handled one at the store for a couple minutes while I was getting my NICS phoned in for an earlier purchase. It felt like a toy because it was so light and that aspect put me off. However, at the same time it felt rugged and solid. I would suspect the rifle is plenty strong or it wouldn't have made it, and stayed on the market this long.

I think a fair share of people seem restrictive when it comes to building a firearm with a new material, or new concepts altogether. Some of it might be justified, and others not.

There are M14/M1A people who still hate the aluminum and plastic M16/AR15. There are 1911 people who still make fun of those plastic Glocks and Springfield XDs. There are rifle people who hate bullpups. The latest example of this phobia is the negative attention on those plastic Beretta Storms and Walther G22's.

Go handle one yourself and see how YOU like it :) They've been selling fairly well according to my local gun shop and they haven't come across any problems.

Carbon 15 purchase

I have also looked at the Carbon 15s. One thing I read on the net, and we all know that everything on the net is true(sarcasm), is that they didn't have a good reputation when using full size mags. Supposedly there was a fix that was made that helped. They might not have any compatable parts which could be a pain. Also Bushmaster is the second company that made them.

Thay look good to my eye but there is a big enough price difference with a standard AR that I don't think I'll get one.

i dont think id be interested in the carbon fibered rifled ar-15s because i looked at the cheaper model at a sporting store and the dont hinge down like regular ar15s do ,both the front and back pin has to come out and sorta slide apart and ive also heard that some of the receivers on them have cracked so im not interested.

I haven't had any experience actually firing one. Just from reading reports from owners at AR15.com, I see mixed reviews. A couple of guys have successfully done some classes with them; but others have seen parts breakage at high round counts. You might have better luck asking that question there.

The Carbon 15 still uses a lot of proprietary parts that do not fit into a regular AR15, so I imagine it still has some minor teething issues. Bushmaster is good enough on warranty though that I would be willing to take that chance if I was willing to accept that the rifle might have some down time now and then.

I upgraded to a Bushmaster Carbon 15 M4 from a KelTec SU-16B. The M4 is more solid and jam-free so far. Kind of like comparing apples to pears. There may be better AR-15's on the market. I'm no expert. My M4 has a sufficient "Oou" & "Ahh" factor at my range to satisfy my wants and needs. :)
