The first word in the title was capitalized because this is not a discussion on reloading.

I'm interested in opinions of inexpensive ball ammo for range use in a 1911.

I've looked locally and options are slim and pricey. I just ordered some S&B from Sportsman Guide for $15 a box of 50, a decent price if it's any good. Looked on Cheaper Than Dirt at some stuff called American Quality that was a decent price in bulk but I've never heard of it.

So, to restate, looking for decent options for inexpensive 10mm range ammo.

Thanks...

We have a local store that gets in MagTech 180gr FMJ 10mm ammo periodically. Not always in stock, but when it is I always buy a couple of boxes. While I like my 10mm it isn't something I shoot in high volume. They sell it for $16/50 rounds including tax. I've been pretty pleased with it if you can locate any I'd recommend it.

I don't have a 10mm but I have bought lots of factory ammo from www.targetsportsusa.com. In bulk, free shipping, otherwise a flat $15 shipping charge. If you buy say 6 or more boxes at a time the prices are really good. I personally just search the ammo caliber by price per round. Hope you find what yer lookin for. They're in Connecticut, I live in Pennsylvania so when I order, I get them in 2 days normally. Best of luck.

Haven't been on the site in a while, out of curiosity, since I have no idea what 10mm ammo costs, I see the current cheapest 10mm ammo they show is MagTech. $14.99/box of 50.

I shot a box of the S&B last week. Bought ten boxes from Sportsman’s Guide since it was much cheaper than usualm10mm. It seemed fine.
Yeah, I've shot quite a bit of S&B ammo in 9mm, 40S&W, and 45acp, no complaints and the brass reloads and lasts well, and seems very consistent in my experience.

I don’t shoot 10mm much, but the last time I bought ammo for range use it was the Sig brand 180gr FMJ. It was around $15/50.

Other than that, I use Underwood. Gold Dots, hard cast and FMJ. It’s not cheap though.

Everywhere I've looked the Sig is closer to $30 per 50.

And I'm a fan of their ammo.

I got mine at a Cabelas of all places. The bulk pack. 250 round pack? And it was $85 on sale I think. So my $15/50 is a little off.

It’s good clean ammo, but didn’t feel as snappy as my full power Underwood. For me that’s the problem with 10mm range ammo - the range ammo is always weak and when I run a few mags of full power, it really shows my weaknesses that the weak ammo didn’t.

That Sig ammo is what I primarily shot for awhile. I used to find it on sale for $25 a box. Haven’t for some time.

My chronograph tests indicated it was averaging out at about 1225 FPS from a 5” barrel.

ammoseek.com shows the least expensive 10mm ammo at $0.254 per round plus shipping.

Owning a 10mm isn't cheap if you don't reload. You might hit a gun show and see if anyone is selling remanufactured ammo.

Then there's the problem that a lot of 10mm ammo is just .40 Short and Weak +

I have no loyalty to ammo suppliers, also live and die on ammoseek (and occasional deals posted by others).

Here's 10 mm today:

Right now there's a deal on S&B 180s as indicated:

After that it jumps to 27¢ / round. So, I'd snag some of that, and then check regularly or find a way to set price alerts so you don't miss the next great deal.

I sent targetsportsusa, not the eaglerock. Looking at that though, it's $12.71 per box only if you buy 1000 rounds.

I added to cart on their sight and it rang up one box only for $12.71.

Everything I looked up while there said "50 units per box 1000 units per case" so looks like there's no limit with that price unless I missed something?

I think managing expectations is the key point in this era of everybody shooting 9mm (at .10 - .15 per round) and all the folks hand loading (at sub-.10 per round). Often times these days, what is considered "inexpensive", especially in less than common rounds is often skewed.
I used to find it on sale for $25 a box.
If you're finding factory 10mm for less than .50 per round, I think you're doing well.

If it's actually loaded to real 10mm velocities, I agree.

I see a lot of factory 10mm ammo that would be better labeled 40 S&W long.

Unless I'm reading it wrong, the attachment, 12.71 per box of 50, 1000 bullets, adds up to 254.20 plus I'm assuming a shipping charge. 12.71 is a great price per box but ya g

My bad, it looked to me on the attachment that that price was only for 1000 rounds at a time. Heck, if it let's you buy boxes of 50 for that price, I'd jump on a half dozen boxes.

Check out True Shot Gun Club. They have 1200 rounds of Armscor 180 gr FMJ for $323 with FREE SHIPPING. That’s $13.35 a box. And FREE SHIPPING makes a lot of difference. I would be all over that if I shot 10 mm. No tax and free shipping makes that a great price.

Usually the last step when ordering online is "order review" before you make your final "place order" click. If on the order review page, it's actually letting you buy individual boxes at that price of $12.71 per box, you're golden, DEPENDING, on the shipping charges, be sure to review that also, figure it into the price per box and see what it comes out to. If it's for example 14.95 for say 6 boxes, that's still a darn good price for 10mm ammo as far as the prices I've seen. Again, just my opinion.
