Buying a gun safe

Probably not what you're looking for but you might want to consider Dakota Safes. They literally come in pieces and you bolt them together. They have an extension kit you can order that seem to almost double their size BUT you can handle the parts easily enough. they come with a fire rating and they seem decent enough but probably not like the top line ones.

I just ordered one and paid $679 for it. I'll be picking it up at the store in town that ordered it with my van (minus back bench seat).

I wanted to put my safe in the basement and that would be impossible with a conventional safe (not a walk-in basement) so this is a bit of a compromise.

When I went to research them I found very litte on the web but I'm taking my chances. I think it'll likely be a dcent enough safe and I like the idea that I can make it bigger and move it much much easier than any conventional safe.

So, you might want to think about this.

I made a mistake and bought a 16 gun Stack-On safe from Dicks. It was 365.00 and a big upgrade for the cabinet-type I had before. The problem is the metal is just too thin. The safe weighs 185 pounds. I have it bolted to the walls and floor but I know I can get a good pry-bar and bend the snot out of that thing.

I'm already planning on using it for ammo and magazines and getting a proper safe for the rifles. Its better than a cabinet but these cheap-o safes are not real safes.

I bought a 30 gun widebody from Cabela's last year. Weighs upwards of 700 lbs. All things considered, it was a cinch to move. I drove to the store with a flatbed trailer. Two kids at Cabela's helped me lay if on it's back and get it strapped down. Brought it home and my brother in law (I'm about 180 and he's 160) slid it off of the trailer slowly, stood it up and slid it right into the garage without a lot of fuss. This is without a dolly, pallet jack or anything else. Anything bigger and taller, and the difficulty increases exponentially but mine was not big deal. Judging by the specs on yours, it's very similar except slightly larger. I don't think it'll be that bad. Just depends on how far you're trying to go with it and what you want to do with it when you get there.
