Maybe we can get a sticky somewhere with all the info on what it is, what it does, what it can or cannot do, and how exactly to get one; along with examples for each.

I just got mine, and I have a question or two still.

I know I can order stuff and have it delivered to my door, and I know that I have to send out a copy with a real signature to any place I order from, but how does buying from an individual off something like gunbroker work? Can I just send them a copy of my license and they send it to me, or do they have to have a FFL send it? I know (before I got the C&R at least) I could send a firearm to an FFL for them to pickup WITHOUT getting a copy of that FFL's license, but now that I have an FFL is that the same, and also, since I am the FFL now - can the individual just send me the firearm (provided its on the C&R list)?

Hi, Outlaws -

I have bought a few items online and all the seller required from me was a signed copy of my C&R license. It's my understanding that SOME states (don't know which) do require that an FFL holder, as opposed to an individual, ships the gun.

HTH,

Rick

See here is what I don't get.....

An individual can send a firearm (any firearm) to an FFL dealer. They don't have to send that individual a copy or any proof they are an FFL. But two FFL dealers transfering between one must get a copy from the FFL receiving the transfer.

So if I am now the FFL (granted a limited form of one), why must an individual receive a copy of my FFL?

It's a Protection Thing

If an individual can send a firearm to FFL dealer, wouldn't that individual want some proof that the receiver is REALLY a FFl holder? I know I wouldn't want to take a chance and send a firearm illegally.

If you are an 03FFL license holder, all you have to do is make sure that you send (mail or fax) your signed license to the person you are buying the C&R from. That is all they need in order to send the C&R item directly to your house. The address where the item is shippped MUST match the address on the 03 liscense. Don't forget to log the firearm into your bound book!!

Speaking of bound book....I haven't got my info packet yet, but what has to be entered, and can I buy anything before I get the packet in the mail?

Here's a copy of a bound-book page I found yesterday, can't remember where I found it though:

"Can I just send them a copy of my license and they send it to me,' YES.
'or do they have to have a FFL send it?' NO. 'I know (before I got the C&R at least) I could send a firearm to an FFL for them to pickup WITHOUT getting a copy of that FFL's license, but now that I have an FFL is that the same' NO. 01 FFLs can be verified through EZcheck, a copy of your 03 FFL is the only verification available. , 'and also, since I am the FFL now - can the individual just send me the firearm (provided its on the C&R list)?" Yes. Provided they are satisfied you are an 03 FFL holder, which means sending them a copy of your license.

"An individual can send a firearm (any firearm) to an FFL dealer. They don't have to send that individual a copy or any proof they are an FFL. But two FFL dealers transfering between one must get a copy from the FFL receiving the transfer." Not if they use EZcheck.

So if I am now the FFL (granted a limited form of one), why must an individual receive a copy of my FFL? So that he knows he is shipping his firearm to someone legally able to receive it.

There is no legal requirement to send only to the address on the license. You can ship to any location the licensee desires. However, common sense would dictate that you only ship to the address on the license unless you personally know the FFL holder.
