CA: Ammo and Thumbprints

Questions: Will the system be able to compare finger prints?
Will your name be entered also/

If it is modeled after the system currently used in the city of Los Angeles:

You are asked for your DL, and your address and DL # is entered (hand-written) into a form kept in a three-ring binder. What ammo you bought is also entered (e.g., 6 boxes Remington 12 ga. birdshot, 7/8 oz.). Then you put down your right thumbprint.

I just did this two days ago, and I was told that the only use for this is LA Police like to pick-up the binder and scan through it looking for felons stupid enough to submit to this and then go bust them for firearm violations.

Ya, that's what they TOLD you. Is that factual? Any way to verify their story? This seems like a plan that has no benefit. How would this stop any crime at all, other than having some rookie cop spend his/her time going through logs at retailers and checking those logs against stupid felons who bought ammo and willfully gave up their name and fingerprints. I am having a hard time envisioning any other scenario where this "fingerprints for ammo" scheme would help to solve any crime.

If it is modeled after the system currently used in the city of Los Angeles:

Then I suppose a future ballot proposition will cite the percentage of "registered" gun owners in Kalifornistan versus the "registered" purchase of ammo. Oh and we will also have to increase fees for firearms, ammo, accessories to pay for the newly instituted department to oversee the "registration"

That group will push for on-line purchase regulations because none of the "registered" gun owners will be purchasing the "registered" ammo.

"Look chicken little, all of that money being spent on-line is depriving the State of income. This must be stopped or we will have to raise taxes."

Somebody just shoot me........before you have to give your thumbprint...

:fire:

What is the purpose of this?
Further discouragement of citizens engaging in a law abiding activity by means of:
A)Making them feel like criminals.
B)Making ammunition purchases more difficult and time consuming.
C)Making the cost and trouble of selling ammunition prohibitive for small gun shop owners.

If this bill passes into law, Wally World will stop selling ammo. Their employees couldn't handle the paperwork required for long gun sales. They certainly won't be able to roll fingerprints.
I can't wait 'til I'm out of this state. How long until our legislature passes something making me an instant felon? How long until I need a special "moving permit" to take my gun to the range?
And it's only a matter of time until the ammo tax passes, I'm sure.
:banghead: :cuss: :fire: :cuss:
I think I'll go soak my head now.

fjolnirsson,

As has been stated several times in other posts. About the time you have merged your vehicle onto any local freeway you have probably violated several laws already. I defer to Ayn Rand......
if you need criminals, just pass so many laws that committing a crime will be normal.

Remeber if everyone is a victim and/or felon they are much easier to control....

Remeber being a little kid

When I was a little kid, I remember that I used to put Elmer's Glue on my finger tips, let it dry, then peel it off. While I would certainly never advocate doing so, who wants to bet that the kid working at WalMart wouldn't notice...

What happens if a gun owner does not have a right thumb tip (I know a guy like that, but he does not own guns).

No thumb tip - No bullets?

Wally World employee: "I'm sorry sir. Since you don't have a right thumb, I must ask you step over here, take down your pants, and sit on top of that copy machine so we can take an imprint of your a$$. The state of California already owns that anyway, so you won't mind us taking a picture of it for the state's and our own records, in case we get audited by the state, would you? It's really about the safety of the women and children of the village, or community."

Funny you should mention that. I cut the end of my thumb clean OFF a couple of years ago with a liner lock folder. It took FOREVER to heal. The part that grew back appears to have no print, it is just smooth

Simmer down, son; I'm reporting the facts...not justifying anything.

It *is* factual AFAIAC, as the guy who told me is the manager of the store and he's the one who has to haul-out the book when the cops come to look. And it's the cops telling him why and what they are looking for. I've got no reason to doubt the manager; he hates it too as it burns his time. Oh yeah, he's also a hunter and has to enter his *own* purchases.

Draw your own conclusions...

If this stinkin' thing passes, I foresee my husband and me taking more frequent trips to visit our friend in Nevada and doing a little shooting in the desert. I don't plan to be giving my address, DL# and thumbprint in order to buy ammo. Just more harrassment.

I ready almost all the posts in another thread regarding the draft.
Funny how government comes up with an unending list of ways to treat us worse than animals in a county shelter.

They make us give any information they want
THe pols say what we want but do what they want
Take our money when they want to
They can search and arrest us at will if they want
Pass any laws to restrict us that they want
Send us to far away places to kill or be kiiled if they want
And the ones that survive, come home so they can start the whole process over again till the lab rat actually dies in the maze.

And we still refer to it as the "Land of the Free"

Me so cynical.

Bwahahaha! You must made my day! It's even funnier when you pretend it's the acne-faced kid from the Simpsons with a breaking voice saying it.

I can just see it if this goes through...Fella walks up to you in the paking lot with a long overcoat on, opens it up and you see bandoleers of ammo. He says,"hey, need some hollow points-ball-slugs.....:uhoh:
..But seriously, this is OUTRIGHT RIDICULOUS.....:fire:

I forsee lots of online ammo purchases and trips to Reno. Assuming this passes, of course, i'm writing my annointed reps and the Gubernator right now.

I think this will definitely start to kill mail-order ammo business. If say John at Proload Ammo gets your order and a thumbprint, how does he know it's your thumbprint, since you didn't do it in front of him? Why should he take a chance on it? They've already quit shipping to several states just because they've made it tough on the suppliers, and that's what is going to happen here. Now all that needs to happen is CA sends out some tough letters to ammo suppliers telling them they'd better have a way of verifying those prints or they'll face legal action if anything happens. I'm sure that was part of the intent when this was thought up.

And need I say - thank God I left CA. I'm hoping to buy a UZI later this month!

As long as you don't need a thumb print on components, legislate away. I think I will just open up a small ammo business out of my garage. That would be nice if Arnold just decided to veto and said it was a big waste of tax payer and private businesses time and money. I can dream can't I? I did decide to send him a letter about it anyway. This would be a good one for him to veto as it really doesn't mean a whole lot and I bet a majority of Californian's would back him up on it.

I'm sure that won't be far behind. Buy a press now, and lots of components. The problem is you'd need LOTS of components, thousands of dollars worth so it could last.

Sigh. Guess I better get a vehicle that can make fast "midnight" trips to CA with lots of weight in the back! :)

And all you Californians ARE writing your Governator, right? Real letters, on paper, short and to the point. Expressing your views on this law? And demanding a veto of this revolting dreck. Hmmmm?

"Next will be a law making it a felony to buy ammo online."

Here in MA, the AG has stopped allowing us to purchase ammo online.

Sorry Sawdust, that wasn't intended as a verbal assault on you. I didn't choose my words carefully enough. It was actually intended as an attack on the yahoos who have come up with this scheme and how stupid it is. I assume they will tell us some BS about how this is effective in stopping crime. I meant no offense, and I apologize if any was taken on your part.
