Hello all.
Getting ready for a trip to a range in northern Ks for a long range shoot. My son has this arranged so I do not have all the specifics. He has been informed that they really do not think a lead sled will be of any benefit. I am going to purchase a Caldwell Rock BR to take with us. Found some older threads where guys using that rest liked them , looking thru some of the old threads someone mentioned another gentleman that had some modifications he had fabricated for that rest.

Just by chance does anyone have knowledge of this guy, what he is modifying, and how to contact him.?

Also , my old bones and knees do not like laying in the prone position( well O K the knees do not like the getting up & down part). I have looked at again some of the older threads regarding shooting benches, any one have updated info on what they are using. Being a retired welder and fabricator, I will be fabricating my own, using either light steel or aluminum material so as to be portable.

Thanks to all.:)

You could probably make one more solid than the Caldwell ones.

Pretty handy sometimes.

As for portable shooting bench, this is the best one I have. The top is concrete that had pipe couplers pre positioned in the form when the mix was poured in. It’s pretty heavy for a portable bench but with 3 steel legs, threaded into tapered fittings, it’s solid pretty much as soon as you set it on its feet. In that video above was the rest on it.

Good Ideas.
Really good if you are a young guy, or have lots of friends to help move the shooting bench.
I am getting older, and not that ambitious to move your bench, I would be too tired to shoot.:(

Thank you.!

I understand, I’m no spring chicken either. I generally use a dolly or just flip it into the back of the mule or truck and sometimes I don’t feel like even doing that. I have a drop of plywood that I screwed some fold up legs too that came off a disintegrated particle board table. It’s been handy over the last 30 years or so for a number of tasks. It’s light but not near as stable.

How portable are you looking for?

I have a tripod with a mount I made using two ATV mounts, even added a brass catcher (holder for my pool net). It’s great for chronograph work.

Hello Jmorris
Looks like a nice shooting area and equipment.
As I said I really dont have many details about the weekend shooting trip. Dont know how far to carry in equipment. Sounds like most use prone position, they said to bring a bench if I had one. Right now I have my design in mind. Starting to acquire the materials. Other projects in line first.

Thank you for the pics and information.
