I vaguely read somewhere where that the governor of California has signed an incredibly high tax on the sale of guns and has banned carry even by permit in public places.

I would ask normally where the NRA is on this but I imagine they are still dealing with Wayne Lapierre's legal problems.

What's the chances of this standing in a federal court? The tax clearly puts firearm purchases out of the reach of the lower income citizens.

That's on top of the already 10% sales tax for guns and ammo.

Which is a Federal tax that everyone already pays. An additional 11% isn't incredibly high and won't have any real impact.

News and "influencers" on our side are guilty of Chicken Little reactions to minor issues like this and it does us no good.

If I saw this correctly, it's 11% tax on all firearms and ammo. Not sure on carry permits. It's Ca., we have to deal with this crap all the time. Time will tell I suppose.

The carry permit deal is restricted heavily now.

plus an almost 10% state and local sales tax (9.5% in Mont and SC Counties) = 30% tax on gun purchases PLUS the new increased DeRos fees .

Seeing as how I haven't seen a successful challenge to the federal tax, I doubt the state tax is going to be successfully challenged.
