I recently accepted a position in California and have to move soon. I own many handguns including a bersa firestorm, ruger .380, Glock 19 Gen 3, Taurus .45, Glock 22 Gen 4 and Glock 31 Gen 4. I've reviewed the California safe gun list and read many different forums but I am not comfortable with the information as it seems to contridict itself at times. 1. Are Glock's legal in CA? 2. There seems to be disagreement on Question 1 but some say yes with the exception of Gen 4 Glock's (So, if Glocks are legal then are Gen 4's legal)? 3. Does there have to be locks on the weapons approved by CA. 4. How do I transport them into CA? 5. I reload my ammo. Is that legal in CA? Are there storage regs on the components? Is it legal to transport the components of relaoding into CA?

I realize that is a lot of questions but I could use someone with CA expertise to help me out. Thanks.

I've reviewed the California safe gun list

The safe gun list has nothing to do with guns you bring with you as a personal handgun importer when you move to California.

1. Are Glock's legal in CA?

All but the full auto ones.

2. There seems to be disagreement on Question 1 but some say yes with the exception of Gen 4 Glock's (So, if Glocks are legal then are Gen 4's legal)?

All but the full auto ones.

3. Does there have to be locks on the weapons approved by CA.

No.

4. How do I transport them into CA?

Unloaded and in a locked case or in a locked exterior compartment of the vehicle.

5. I reload my ammo. Is that legal in CA? Are there storage regs on the components? Is it legal to transport the components of relaoding into CA?

Yes. Not sure about the powder. Yes.

Your confusion regarding Glocks is probably more due to the magazine capacity laws than the pistol itself.

CA bans import, sale or gifting of any pistol magazine that holds more than 10-rounds. So it will be illegal for you to bring any "normal capacity" magazines with you into CA when you move here. The only loophole is that any magazines you already owned and were located in CA before the 2000 ban are Grandfathered-in. So you should probably buy a whole mess of 10-rounders before you get here.

Take a look at the CA Penal Code for magazines:
http://codes.lp.findlaw.com/cacode/PEN/3/4/2/1/2/s12020

You should also visit calguns.net for CA-related firearms information

regarding Gen 4 in CA, yes they are legal, no it is not legal to import for non-LEO, but it is legal for sales through PPT. So technically, it is legal for you to purchase & own as a Civvie, not as clear to import as a personal firearm. But if you keep your nose clean, who's going to hassle you?

Do also remember that, as a personal handgun importer, you must register each handgun - this form: http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/forms/pdf/ab991frm.pdf - and $19 for each gun, within 60 days of moving here.

There's a limit of 1 pound of black powder and I think it's 20 pounds of smokeless without a permit. No limits on primers or complete cartridges.

So long as you're going to be here, please join Calguns; we can always use another gunny!

Welcome to CA.

Please be assured that you can legally bring all the handguns you have listed...but please pay attention to the form Librarian has linked to and complete that process...and please transport then unloaded in a locked container

You will not be able to import assembled magazines for your guns if they hold 11+ rounds.

Which area of CA will you be settling in...we have a lot of ranges and shooting clubs just about everywhere

Thanks

Thanks for everyone's input and I shall try and join the CA gun forums and groups.
