Gunshow's in town this weekend, always go but usually never buy anything except reloading supplies because of the prices.

Twisted my son's arm a little and he went with me. He just graduated high school early and I had been thinking about a gun as a present.
Usual tables full of overpriced used stuff. Overpriced new stuff too. Was keeping an eye out for a Security Six but there were none to be found.

I pointed out a couple of guns to my son: a Ruger NRA special, couple of other .22's got a ho-hum response. (He did drool over a few AR's but Dad ain't even got one of those yet!)

Came to a table full of new Berettas and show him a NEOS. He only had one word; "AWESOME!!" I had been looking at them on Gunbroker.com, this guy had them for $229. I asked #1 son if he really liked them. Again, I got "AWESOME!" Dealer was great, without even being asked to do so he unhooked one from the tiedown cable strung through all the display guns and handed it to me.
Pulled out the checkbook and said "Happy graduation". His jaw about hit the floor and I got a hug that about bruised my ribs. :D
Really wanted a stainless but they didn't have any so we got a 6" blued one.
On the way home he asked how we were going to break the news to mom about buying another gun, given the fact that I just bought a new Blackhawk a couple of weeks ago. Told him she already knew and we had the bosses approval already. He gave me one of those "You're kiddin', right?" looks.

Congratulations, Sisco. That's the same gun that my son in law just "had to have" once he saw it. He wasn't into guns before that. A couple weeks later he bought a 1911 and now is going to shoot with my son and I at an IPSC match in a couple weeks.

in 3 hours 15 minutes my dad is going to be behind an MG-42. he thinks were are going to watch a machine gun shoot. he doesn't realize he's a participant.

Josey

I got a 6 banger AMC Hornet. (sigh)
I had one of those myself. With a 3 speed transmission. Mine was a station wagon though. WAY better than a back seat. Just rigged some curtains and threw in a nice thick foam pad and voila, a rolling love wagon!

Oh and ON topic, I did get a muzzle loading rifle musket for my 16th B-Day.

I never did get a car but I did get gramp's old 94 30-30 when I was turned 12. I plan to give it to my daughter when she is ready.

We were hoping to get it out this afternoon and give it a try but it's raining. Hasn't rained here in about a year so why now??
I really like the way the thing feels in my hand. Took it to work with me last night to show it off, (yes, that's permissible) everyone there was impressed with the way it felt too.
The hug and the look on his face were worth ten times the price I paid for the gun, he's a good kid and deserves it. He's getting quite the collection started already, I didn't have as many guns when I was seventeen!
He spent funds from his summer job to trick out his 10/22. It was that or another video game machine, he decided the rifle would last forever the X-Box wouldn't.

Sisco,

Great job. Great reaction from your son. Now all you have to do is keep it fed. The gun and the boy. LOL

By the way, I'm up for adoption.

I didn't get a gun for graduation, but my dad bought me a Marlin model 60 rifle for Christmas when I was 13.... That was the best present I had ever received...

The Neos IS a seductive-looking little piece in its own right. Might be a great way to start him off. Now the REAL work begins: Instilling solid safety habits and good range protocol. Do you have a nearby range you can both go to...?
