Weird Experience at the Gun Show

My vote is BATFE . . .

The thing is . .isn't there a question on the 4473 that says something about being a foreign national? It seems to me that there were fields in there that allowed them to buy . . . .being as I'm not a foreign national I can't say I've paid much attention to it so it could be a disqualifying question I guess.

I've been taking a 9mm I'd like to possibly sell/trade to a dealer the past couple shows. Had a guy approach me asking what I had and what I was asking. Told him I only brought to maybe trade, but he kept asking, so I named a high price - with no intention of selling 'cause his demeanor was raising a few hairs on the neck. The he proceeds to tell me he has 30 round mags that would fit it - not quite sure if he expected me to want mags for a gun I'm looking to sell, or sell him a gun he supposedly had 30 round mags for (which I wouldn't have anyway, 'cause the neck hairs were at full attention now). That's where it ended, but still weirded me out a little. Later, as I was leaving, there was a staffer outside LOUDLY explaining to a another guy (maybe even the same guy, couldn't tell from the back) along the lines of "you can't sell guns outside the building, you know that, we've been through this before..." etc, etc. Such behavior is probably (unfortunately) more common than we think.

Winchester VA? Sounds like one of Bloomberg's spies. To think the media is saying he has a good chance of becoming president as an independant.

IF this guy is for real and does NOT have a green card, since you have knowledge, you would be in big trouble if you sold him a firearm. If he is for real, I might have pointed him out to a LEO at the show. Something doesn't sound right and I follow the law.

One of the things the anti-gun people want is a NICs check for all firearm purchases.

An added thought:

Yes, blow his cover, LOUDLY, but also whip out your CELL PHONE CAMERA and take multiple pictures of the guy. In addition to intimidating him, you can share his picture with all your friends down at the local police station, and here online.

+1

As an added bonus, if he's a cop he probably won't be able to resist arresting you for "wiretapping." Then you'll know for sure.

No presumption of privacy in a public place. It's legal to photograph people in public. Just don't make an audio recording.

"the purchaser was a korean with no papers except an electric bill"
RR, the guy was a resident nonimmigrant alien. These folks are treated as citizens, they just haven't been granted formal citizenship. Used to be able to buy guns like the rest of us but since 9/11 they are having to provide utility bills for 3 mos as well as other documentation. Most are more "American" than some folks born here. Did he look like this?

Absolutely true. It's why paparazzi aren't arrested. However, police often take it none too kindly to be photographed. Undercover police, doubly so. If you try to photograph an undercover cop while he's trying to entrap you, expect to be hassled.

However, I'm not saying not to do it. I think it's a great idea, and well worth any potential hassle. Like all other rights, this one will atrophy with disuse.

I thought about that, and almost added a clever bit about getting pulled over two blocks from the gun show and having your vehicle and colon detail-searched. But I refrained.

Yelling loudly in righteous indignation, "How DARE you ask me to sell you a gun illegally!" is entirely above reproach. It means you pass the test.

If you simultaneously snap a photo or two while the guy skulks off, I think you'd be safe even if he WAS a cop (which I'm not so sure of), because his cover isn't really blown at that point.

Just watch your rear-view mirror on your way home.

By the way, what has happened to our country?

A BBC producer doing an exposé of America's gun culture.

"Just off the plane, I was able to make a private purchase of a high powered revolver, right down the road from the recent university massacre at Virginia Tech..."

"Yes I might be able to help you out" Then take him to the nearest security Or LEO. And let then handle it.:D

never_retreat....

Where in NJ do you find your garage sales because I am tired of looking at broken Ikea furniture and used Bon Jovi CDs!

One more vote for an ambicious journalist trying to blow the cover off the terrible gun shows which sell weapons to criminals and terrorists... only to find that there is no cover to be blown.
