I currently only own 3 guns. After years of having guns all around the house, my better half told me to narrow it down to 3. So I figured I needed a versatile variety.

Inventory:

HK45 .45ACP
Mossberg500 12 gauge tactical pistol grip.
Tikka T3 30-06 topped with Nikon Buckmaster.

My thought process was that I need a good pistol, shotgun and a reliable rifle.

What would you guys have if you were limited to only 3???

Definitely a .22LR, probably one of the 336 30-30s, and a 9mm full capacity magazine XD.

I would hate to think I was ever put to just three. It would be a hard toss up between the 30-30 and the AR15.

I suppose, if I had to narrow it down and I was told that there was NO alternative, I'd go with a new wife. But we could try counseling first if she was willing to see the benefits of compromise.

As an aside -- kind of off the primary topic IMHO -- those seem to be fine guns. Any 12 ga. Any .30-'06. Any .45 ACP. Those three could be stretched to fill at least some of the more common shooting duties.

For me the rifle would be a DPMS LR-308. I'd have a few uppers for it. 260 Rem, 308 Win, and 300 SAUM.

The Shotgun would be a semi auto 12ga Benelli.

The Handgun a Wilson Combat 1911 45ACP

The rest of my guns would be hidden at my brothers house!

I agree with Sam. Gun control whether by repressive government or domineering spouse is repugnant.

If you think your domestic arrangements are of more value than your guns, you must consider what the remainder is to be FOR. Versatility is just a word.

I shoot a pistol in competition on a weekly basis, plus practice. But my match gun is big and heavy for concealment, so I would need a carry gun. And I shoot a particular form of rifle in competiton, and would want to keep the newer of those. So I would let the b@*^h do me out of my shotguns.

This sort of thread makes me glad I am not married.

If my better half forced me to narrow it down to 3 I'd be single.

Just like if I forced her to narrow her shoes down to three pair, then I'd have to find a new place to live.

Seriously fellas,

We have kids and at the time, needed the $$ for some other things. Maybe I should have left out the wife part in the OP! lol :D

Way to stand up for yourself (hope she's not standing behind you right now)! Anyways, if I were limited for whatever reasons, I would probably opt for the following:

Colt AR-15, with a variety of different caliber uppers and accessories

Mossberg Model 500 12 gauge, with a couple of extra barrels, choke tubes, and accessories

Colt M1911 Government Super .38, with a variety of different caliber conversions and accessories

My thought process was that I need a good pistol,

Ruger Redhawk in .44 Magnum. You can load it with .44 magnum for bear country, snakeshot for snake country, and .44 special for goblin country. What more can you ask for in a handgun?

Winchester Defender, Remington 870 or Mossberg Persuader in 12 gauge.

and a reliable rifle.

Fulton Armory match M14 built on a forged Polytech or Norinco receiver. Since you can only have three guns, you may as well make them the best ones on the market.

So now he backpeddles!

If I was forced down to 3 I'd cry like a little girl. Although after losing my wife in 2007 I'd give all my firearms to still have her around. I think the guys that say uniformly guns are more important than the wife need to set back and think a bit. I'd guess alot of these guys are currently single.

i couldnt do 3, i could do maybe 5 but that would be hard

3 would be
xd45
savage 308
remington 12 g

2 more would be
ruger 10-22
buckmark 22

I'd tell her I'll cut my collection down to to three guns if she cuts the number of outfits she has to three.

Grow a pair (well, hypothetically) :)

If I were in your shoes I'd tell her to thin her shoe population and no more than 3 name brand purses in the house! Then you may approach the bench to start negotiations on the limit of firearms in the house. But then again I am the rooster in my house and if I want another gun and it does not put us out then by god I get a gun. When does the insanity end? This is talk of blasphemy

CFIX,

I understand the need to tell another man to grow a pair if I was single too. The fact remains that I spend WAY WAY more $$ than she does for everything. I do have an addiction for Home theater equipment, Les Paul guitars and other things. I think that it was a fair deal due to those facts.

might chose a k96 for rifle or a preban h-bar
quality 1911 full size 45
m41 22lr, herret grips and 2moa leopold/gilmore red dot

S&W M&P .40
Remington 870 12 gauge
Springrield M1A or other M14 derivative

All American made, all quality, and should cover all your sporting needs and most of your self defense needs.

Lonestar,

I agree about the Rifle and Shotty, but the Germans do make a fine, fine pistol in the new HK45 ;)

Tikka T-3 in 7mm Rem Mag
SBE II (in case things get hairy on the Sporting Clays course)
S&W 460 (just to let them hang out)

does it have to be the guns? you mentioned home theatre equipment...downgrading that 64" flat screen to a 30" would more than cover your guns...(unless you have a LOT)
