If it doesn't fit a category for you, sell it on gunbroker.com

I have picked up a few similar FA 83's in my area for the same you have in that gun. Three actually. All in similar or better condition. I have found the going price for .454's depends on condition and market timing. They can go anywhere from 900 to 2000 dollars. I mainly look at them as a starting point for larger caliber conversions, though at this point, I wouldn't mind just having one in .454-45 Colt.

Since it's worth so much less than I thought, I am going to take the original trade offered me of the Ruger Super Blackhawk Bisley Hunter in 45 Colt, plus enough cash to buy a really good optic. I can load for both, and see which gun I like best.

Thanks for the advice!

What did you think it was worth? New they are in the 2000-2500 last time I checked.
900-2000 isn't much off that.

.454's are the most common, hence bring the lower prices, sometimes.

Nothing wrong with a 4¾" FA for hunting and general purpose work. If you can't precisely place a bullet at 50yds with a 4¾", a 7½" ain't gonna make up for it.

I do remember both Linebaugh and Seyfried saying they liked the .45 Colt
because it did better with heavier bullets.
Might've been true when Linebaugh penned his article, nearly 30yrs ago but it's no longer true. IMHO, it's a wash.

Perhaps. Seems to me the .454 was designed for lighter bullets, with higher velocity. Casull liked that for hunting.

Weren't his factory loads in the 250-31o range?
