I’m interested in using a manual powder drop with my Lee Classic Turret.

Not sure what stand to use. Can I use the Lee powder through expander die with a funnel on top ?
Do you use a plastic or metal funnel ? Any static issues ?

Any info would be great. For some reason I can’t seem to find much with Google.

As a side note, I’m deciding between the RCBS Competition Powder Measure and the Redding 10X.

Not sure if the Redding is worth so much more, but I’m wary of buying another cheap powder measure. My Lee auto disk has served well… after sanding, dremeling, deburring etc. The Lee auto drum – well, I just don’t want to waste any more time fettling it and having powder leaking everywhere.

Yeah just put the funnel in the top of the adjuster screw portion of the expander powder through die . I have a Hornady funnel and it fits perfectly.

It’s probably too late for you but I have learned that spraying graphite spray lube into the auto drum mechanism area and let dry allows me to tighten the insert a bit tighter while still getting full indexing . This cuts down on the leakage and needs to be done every 500 to 700 rounds . Since you’ve modified your auto Drum I doubt anything is going to make it better .

That all said there was a learning curve when I started using the auto drum and it took me a little while to get confidence in it which I ultimately have and now have two of them .

You can use the powder through die and just set a funnel at the top as previously said. To be honest I do not know what type of funnel I have, but I've not really ever had an issue with static.

For 99% of my pistol loading I use the Auto-drum on top of my turret press. Seems as though you have had issues going that route. You could get another auto-drum, for the price if it worked you'd have the auto-full that you were looking for in the first place. I'm thinking of putting one on every turret with pistol dies so I don't have to swap the powder fill between turrets when changing. calibers.

Thanks for the replies !
No issues with varying charges with the Dandy on top of the turret ?

I may just try the Dandy as I can see other uses for it. I can see that the rotors can get expensive - I may get a couple and try filling the cavity a bit.

Just noticed the comments on Amazon about a loose fit for the adapter. Anyone had that issue ?

The dandy is very consistent. A guy named bailey boat sells an adjustable rotor. I have all the rotors + the adjustable one. My adapter is tight.

I'm still using the Lee disk system with the screw modification and it seems to throw accurately when loading pistol and 223, when I load 30-06 I use a Lee powder die and weigh each load and use the regular powder funnel, if static is a problem wipe everything down with a used dryer sheet.

sparkyv, you're way too neat !
I just pitched out my Lee priming system - felt good ! I timed myself and can beat that thing easily just by emptying a tray of primers and inserting them manually. No more tapping the tube or using my "other" hand to catch a primer that's about to drop on the floor.

rdnktrkr, I agree that the Lee disk works great - I've just worn mine out and am looking for something more finely adjustable. I did have to dremel the main body so that the return spring didn't make that big noise every time, smooth out various areas for smooth operation etc.

Does anyone know if the adjustable Dandy rotors are still available ?

Interesting to see that no one seems to be using a stand alone measure and dropping into a funnel.
