Can't find mine. Where can I get some?

We tried shooting the beer can mortar today. None of us had cannon fuse and it was a pain to light. High winds kept extinguishing our rope (we used rope soaked in WD-40 for a fuse). Only fired three shots and then gave up.

I have purchases from cannonfuse.com and have have good results and fair prices.
Also used it to make up some bird buster rounds.

Gary;

Thread a #11 cap nipple on the fuse hole. Place a cap on the nipple, and use a common hammer to ignite. Eye protection is required, of course. If you want to go back to conventional fuse, unscrew the nipple.

If you want to get fancy, you can rig up a spring loaded hammer to fire the cap. There are pictures online.

Good luck!

John C - thanks for the suggestion, but I'm not up to using a hammer/nipple on my mortar. I prefer the slower fuse as it is part of the fun of shooting the mortar.

Of the three shots fired on Sunday, the one that flew the best was the Coors bullet can.

Ordered some fuse from CannonFuse.com. Thanks everyone! It will be here in time for July 4!

Go to Pyro Direct. They sell everything you need to make your own fireworks. To them cannon fuse gets very low billing. Or I have never found so much fuse for such a very low price. They always have it. It ships in little to no time. Back when you could not find powder, bullets or primers you could get miles of cannon fuse for next to nothing from them. You can also pick up a few other of their goodies to have a lot of fun with night time effects from your cannon. Virtually turning your cannon into a horizontal mortar. Hope this helped. Cannonman

Wow! A wireless firing system. Now that's a bit modern but it's great if I was doing movies.

Last fuse I bought was from a fire works stand, they sold ten foot hanks, forget the cost but for cheap.

Gary;

Great tip on the Coors Bullet can. I was at the store and saw those, as well as the Bud Light aluminum bottles. I need to have my brother-in-law drink some for me so I can have the bottles (I've been dry for 13 years now).

A field expedient fuse is to fill the touch hole with 4Fg powder, and use a linstock. Cannonfuse sells slowmatch. Also, when I bought my fuses from Cannonfuse.com, I bought the pre-cut 3 inch long fuses. It was very handy.

One issue I've had when shooting cannons with fuses is that I typically shoot in a remote part of the Nevada desert. The constant wind made use of a lighter almost impossible. I used harbor freight butane torches, which are very difficult to blow out. Torches have their own issues. That's why I went to a nipple/hammer ignition system.

JohnC - we primed the touch hole with 3F. It was the finest we had (my horn had 2F) and still had difficulty because of the high winds. It's just not as fun to light it with a burning match rather than with a fuse. Since you're concentrating on getting the ignition, you can't stand back to watch the launch. I'm waiting for Mortar Goodness Round II on July 4 (or earlier). At least one classmate will be around and as well as the lady whose property we were shooting it on.

On the Coors Bullet can, I scavenged it on the roadside. I generally don't drink soda at home and have been dry since my twenties (when my tolerance for alcohol evaporated --- it was the first food group that I couldn't consume anymore) so there's no beer cans around the house. Hence, my two hour walk along the country road like some homeless dude picking up cans for money. Snakes and traffic were on my mind but the drivers all gave me some leeway and I didn't see a single rattler.
