Hello, hoping I can find a solution to my stupid mistake.
This morning, while getting ready to clean my Beretta 391, I accidentally tightened (turned it the wrong direction, don't know what I was thinking) the Briley end cap I have on it, to the point that now I cannot remove it. I have put vise grips on it and when I turn it counterclockwise, you can see the foreend wood bowing out in the direction I turn. That's how tight it is. So I don't want to crack the foreend by turning it any more.
I have put PB Blaster and Kroil on it, but no joy. I thought about heating it, but am not crazy about that, as I don't want to damage the barrel or the wood with the heat. If I did, what would I use, a small butane torch?
Any ideas on how to resolve this? I think this is my dumbest screwup ever with a gun, and I just want to get this cap off!
Thanks

I had a stuck cap on a 870 one time the person I bought It from put lock tight on it
I put it in a vice with a small towel around the for end then a piece of thick leather over that I put it in the vice to keep stress off the wood. I heated it with a heat gun (the leather was covering all wood and the towel) and took it off with vice grips

if it comes to that there's a suggestion good luck

Thanks, may try that. I've heard "heat it" and "put it in the freezer" so I am not sure which is best. Guess I will try both.

Try impact.

If you can get the vice grips on it without terribly scaring it?

Whack them a fast blow with a small hammer.

Should pop it loose.

Use something between the vise grips and cap. An old leather belt for example.

Finally got it loose. Turns out the Briley forend cap is a two-piece unit, and you have to unscrew the outer part first. It was filthy and the spring rusted, plus it looks like s--t now that I beat it with the vice grips, so I will have to replace it. Not crazy about the design so going to see what other brands are out there. (It was an 8-ounce cap.)

Thanks to all for your suggestions. Won't make this mistake again!

Thanks. I actually have the factory cap; the Briley was an 8-ounce cap. I'm going to see who else makes weighted forend caps for the 391. I was never that crazy about the Briley 2-piece design.
