Just saw an ad for Aguila ammo, 40 grain lead round nose. Ad said it's not be used in semi-autos (didn't specify clip, rotary mag, or tube). Anyone know what that is all about? It is the yellow box of Aguila .22 ammo. If I recall correctly, it was on the SGAmmo website. Thanks.

Yep , here you go.

Aguila makes various ultra low powered .22 caliber loads. The Colibri and Super Colibri ammo are powderless cartridges with primer fired 20gr bullets. Aguila is probably best known for these rounds. These will absolutely not cycle any semi-auto though and have a tendency to get stuck in rifle barrels (the standard Colibri at least)

The 40gr variation though that you're posting about is a subsonic load. Some subsonics will cycle some actions. Usually it has a lot to do with both the gun and the load. Anyway, though I've never personally fired this particular load, I'm told they're light even for subsonics .. so, thus the notice.

I have some subsonics, different brands, and they shoot okay in a couple of my guns. The MP-22 seems to handle them with no problem so they are great with the suppressor. MOST of my semi's will NOT fire the subsonic ammo reliably.

That ammo will work fine in most semi-autos. Aguilla does make several rounds that are primer powered only that obviously will not cycle a semi, I bet they just copied that onto the standard velocity by mistake.

I use this ammunition in several target pistols. If I put a light bead of oil on the top round I am good to go for at least 30 rounds. This will get me through any stage of a bullseye match. The next step will be to try lighter recoil springs and see if I can get good reliability that way.

Their standard velocity stuff will work in some guns but not others.

It'll feed and function in most Ruger MkI/II/IIIs, but not in my High Standard. Between the case diameter and the amount of lube on the bullets, the stuff often won't chamber, or if it will, won't eject.

I've been using aguila in all my 22's to include my browning and ruger10/22 and the marlin 60,but in their defense they are ammo whores. They eat anything you give them.

I've fired Colibri in a 10/22. Doesn't cycle the action, but doesn't lodge in the barrel either. Doesn't get stuck in the barrel of my old Model 67 single shot either.
