Carrying into a bar?

A guy on my bowling league the other day told me that in Oregon we cannot carry firearms into a bar or restraunt that sells alcohol (he own a local bar). I have been reading our state law here in Oregon and I cannot find anything that says that to be true. I myself do not drink alcohol at all...period. So I do not see why I could not carry into a bar safely. We just go out to karaoke a couple times a week because my partner loves to sing.

Does anyone know if this is true in Oregon/Washington? Is this common in other states?
 
I know you can't in Washington, adding to that I just saw it posted for the first time the other day the "The Spot" in Renton/Kent area. It even had the RCW's but I can't remember them.

I can answer as to Washington. You can carry into a restaurant that serves alcohol. You cannot carry into a bar or the bar portion of a restaurant that is marked "You must be 21 to enter."
 
In Texas you can't carry into an establishment that makes more than 51% of their income from alcohol consumed in the establishment.
There will be a 51% sign posted.

Also Tx went to Zero tolerance on drinking and carrying. If tested and there's ANY indication of alcohol you can lose your carry license.
 
Actually, SOG is incorrect.

Carry in Portland and Beaverton is legal. What he is referring to is open carry, which even though legal, will get you harressed and arrested by the PD.

No city, town, community, or county can make their own gun laws. They are only able to define where and how you can discharge the weapon and an act of self defense trumps those laws.

Please refer to the ORS 166 which will give you the law and relatively easy to comprehend.

Also, there is nothing in the ORS that states that you may not or can not carry into a bar or a place in which alcohol is served.

In Oregon you will find many who "know the law", up to and including sheriffs who do know the law but try to pull the wool over your eyes anyway.

If you have any doubts as to what the ORS states, please call the AG of Oregon and get it from him, not from a board or from LEO's with an agenda.
 
That's interesting, such an ordinance againt concealed carry would seem to violate Oregon state law:

166.173 Authority of city or county to regulate possession of loaded firearms in public places. (1) A city or county may adopt ordinances to regulate, restrict or prohibit the possession of loaded firearms in public places as defined in ORS 161.015.
(2) Ordinances adopted under subsection (1) of this section do not apply to or affect: (a) A law enforcement officer in the performance of official duty.
(b) A member of the military in the performance of official duty.
(c) A person licensed to carry a concealed handgun.
(d) A person authorized to possess a loaded firearm while in or on a public building or court facility under ORS 166.370. [1995 s.s. c.1 §4; 1999 c.782 §8]

It looks like they can make their own laws about carrying, but those laws won't affect LEOs, the military, CCW pemit holders, etc.
 
Not sure about Oregon or Washington, but here in Virginia we can carry as long as its opened (not concealed carry in bars/restaurants with liquor licenses, though as some have been known to say . . . . concealed is concealed)

and just across the Sate line in NC, we can't carry at all (open or concealed) in anyplace that sells liquor for consumption on the premisis.

Not exactly relevant but for info - in PA there is no limitation to bar carry.

That said anyone who does and drinks is being foolish, apart maybe from my one exception which might be a single light beer spread over an hour when eating as well.

I believe if anyone is checked out when carrying then the DUI level would be used as a frame of reference.

Does strike me as excessive, some of the bar limitations. Many of us anyways would I think (hope) not go into many bars carrying anyways - however legal - as that is one place where trouble can find us.!

Seems to me that the one place where trouble can find you is where you surely should be carrying.
I don't know about where you live, but in these parts, if it's a righteous shoot, it's good enough.

Minnesota seems to have taken a reasonable approach.
You may carry in a bar,but if caught over .04 (half the legal limit) you are in trouble and will lose your permit..
seems fair to me.
 
As a bar owner and a gun owner. I hope that anyone who can carry wouldn't do so in a bar if they are drinking. I've seen so much stupidity it boggles the mind and to add firearms to the mix.:what:
I don't drink and hope to never/ever have to use my firearm in my establishment. However we have had a few armed hold-ups in our area and I feel the need to protect my employees if that ever happens, but I feel that if someone ever pulls a gun in a crowded bar only tragedy can come of it
 
Sadly, in OH you can't carry into any bar or restaurant that has a liquor license for on premises consumption. :mad:
