This is my new Holster from down under Yuma Arizona in Mexico . Buddy of
mine saw it at a shop there and said I just had to have it , so sent it to me :). Same guy I sent the 1861 Colt to that never shot it , and gun is comming back home to me next week :D ..
Said the gentlemen in leather shop there wanted $15.00 American for it , haggeled him down to $8.00 . ;)
It is nicely carved and tooled , fits my Pietta .44 Cap and Ball Peacemaker quite nicely :D . Told him he's got to find me the belt next time he goes there to match this thing . Those Mexicans can sure do some nice work on their leather , mmmm , yup , $8.00 , mmm , good deal huh :D . Nice and thick too , lined and everything :) ........

Wonder what the belts gonna cost me , $5.00 :)

Das Jaeger , who loves his Model "P's"

Mexican Address ?

Mexican address ? Whats that , a little shop to left of the other little shop , next to Donkey , near goats , on corner :D
I didn't ask , I just accepted his gift as is . :D

Jaeger , Mexican address , thats a good one . :D

Born in Tucson and lived in Phoenix, Tempe and Mesa, I've done the border town boogie on a number of occasions. They really do have addresses, even if it appears the shop is only a hole in the wall.

Ah, good times.

They do nice work, but don't store the gun in the holster. Sometimes they don't get all of tanning acid out of the leather, and if it gets damp you'll get a free "original" finish job. :uhoh:

Thanks

Old Fuff , am aware of this leather thing already , but thanks :D
Yeh , you never know what they use down there anyways for tanning ?

Here ya go Old Fuff

The Model "P's" got a nice environmentally friendly place to sleep , none of my stuff sits in leather , for long :D

Carved Mexican Holster

This one was so cheap I could not pass it up, $40 for belt and both holsters. It's two years old and still a little stiff, like a 2X4;) I'm going to assume they do not use environmentally safe chemicals in the tanning process.

Damn jaeger, did we buy at the same shop? Was there this place across the street that..... never mind.

Yeh , no kidding !

Darn fine slab of cow for $40 :D
I know how long that would take me to make that rig , I am just glad they do it cheap :D .
First thing I did with my Holster was saturate it with Lexol to get that 2x4 feeling gone :D

I thought about doing something like that but was afraid it would melt or come back to life or something strange. Did you use the cleaner or the conditioner or both?

Just the Conditioner

I was afraid to use the cleaner , figured it would melt or come back to life , hey where did I hear that before ? :D
You obviously are aware of Lexol , good stuff , real good stuff . it worked pretty good on it too after several full saturations . I give it say , 10 years it will be just about right feelin , then probalby disintergrate anyways :D
For a working gun though , it is an ideal heavy duty horse holster , as you know . :)

You know there are leathersmiths right here in the good Old U.S.A. that dont like that south of the border JUNK:evil:.
Hmmm maybe I need to set up an inspection station and start calling all that stuff anti AMERICAN propaganda. :banghead:
$8 hell I cant beat that. My leather costs more than that. Ok I wont say anything else. Im sorry

BBG

you could do just that too if ya wanted to , a little table at every border crossing and out in evey peice of trail in the desert they come over ilegally too :D ... It might cut into your leather shop time though :D

Probably aint gonna stop me from collecting free gifts though :D
Most of my other leather is from Oklahoma , if that's any consolation :D

Cheerios , Das Jaeger

BBG

BBG , I thought that was my job :D ..I tend to do that just by speaking , I call :D
I wonder if they use allot of Horse leather in Mexico ?

Jaeger

I was waiting for Bob to chime in and give us hell about our "quality" Mexican leather:rolleyes:

I'm almost afraid to put any of my good guns in those holsters, but it was a gift from the wife and you all know that a gift from the wife must be appreciated.

Bob, I'm savin' your good stuff for Sunday go to meetin'.

That bein said

and all now Madcratebuilder , then I definately better not tell him someone made my hat for me in Santa Cruz California (the other Mexico :D ) , and the band was made in Montana ( pretty close to Canada ) , and the Silver work is mine from here in Washington ( Democrat Central ) :D .
I am guessin anything north-south-east-west of his shop is off limits to the buying public to buy or make from anywayz :D ....... I am guessin he could aways charge a Tarrif on ANY leather goods that are not his or are of his interpretation of quality too :D .........Heck with all the new revenue from taxes and penelties he could charge for for actualy using N.A.F.T.A , he wouldn't even have to work , just sell Lemonaide at the tables at the border , which surrounds his shop anywayz :D.... I am wondering his stance on Italian replica guns as well ? :D

Jaeger

MCB see thats all I was wantin was just some recognition of a superior American product. Yup there still are a few of those around.
Sunday go to meetin leather thats all fine.

DJ nah I look at it like this there are a few leather smiths out there. Some to the north some to the West I think I got the South and east covered. And thats only until they open up Cuba.(the other Mexico) :banghead: Keep in mind I am in :barf: South Florida. And yes every gift from the wifey has to be apreciated OR ELSE :uhoh: And them thar I talian Gun makers dont bother me to much
I dont make guns. :neener:
Let me end this with God I feel better.

Heck

I think we all try to buy American anyways when we can . :)

Last one out of Florida , grab the flag ! :D ... I used to live in lake City , I know whats ya saying :) ...
Glad my gal is a leathersmith also , so all her gifts to me from her are American made :D ..........Now if I can just get her to buy me an Italian BP revolver or better for X-Mas , life would be Grand-er :D

Cheers , oh , and I have seen your work , very nice .

Das Jaeger

Thanks DJ.
I know for a FACT there is no way in hell my wife would ever buy me a gun.:banghead:
But I do got to watch her like a hawk. I came home from work and she was sitting in my studio eye ballin my Model 69 Winchester.:fire: I told her to take three steps back and to grab a towel to wipe up all the drool. And it seems My Colt pocket pistol May have been liberated. Because when I asked her about it she answered very sheepishly that she hadnt seen it. Well come to find out that she had sent it out to be knickled. So I had to make some fast phone calls
but I stopped the plater just in time. I dont like them pimp guns . I have one I am almost ashamed of. She got pissed off cause I guess she figured if I didnt like she would get to keep it.:banghead: I have created a monster I need HELP

The Old Fuff would observe that bigbadgun or other holster makers in the United States cannot compete with Mexicans when it comes to price - although it would seem that some of those running our government are bound and determined to reduce our workers to they're level. :uhoh:

That said, while the south-of-the-border workmen are among the best when it comes to carving - so much so that some U.S. outfits send them custom orders - the patterns, and styles are seldom period-correct, and we've already noted that there can be problems with the material. When it comes to present-day CCW rigs they are really lost because they don't understand what is required, and because of Mexican gun laws they don't have any good way to make patterns. As a consequense most of the rigs you see are of the one-size-fits-all kind directed toward Colt Single Action's and clones.

The U.S. makers usually offer a product that's correctly made to fit the particular gun that you have, and made from leather you don't have to worry about.

Of course if the holster/belt is a gift from you-know-who, all of the above becomes meaningless. :D

Yes BBG

you better watch that girl , she's thinking , way too hard . :D

Don't like Pimp Guns , ashamed to be seen with it in your collection ?
I have your cure , Pimp Daddy Jaeger loves shiney :D .... I see you said your ALMOST ashamed of it , that means to me your not willing to get rid of it , yet , hee hee hee .
What is it , maybe we can trade sometin :D ?

You know , I would never purposely support or buy Mexican leather , but I won't refuse a nice gift , and the holster I got is actualy pretty nice . Better than anything Tripple K , but worse than anything my Gal or you make or can make , so tis a toss up between the two grades I suppose . Being nicely lined , I certainly aint worried about it rubbin my blueings or Nickels off the guns . I only wear holsters kickin around the property or out hunting anyways :) .They are more ART to me than anything . My lifestyle doesn't allow me to Western Holster Rig along with my carpenter belt on at work ?

Cheers, Jaeger

The pimp gun I have is a 1858 Rem A.S.M. in Stainless.
I was kind of leary to buy a ASM but for the price of it in stainless and the fact that the fit and finish are superb on this particular piece.
I see you said your ALMOST ashamed of it , that means to me your not willing to get rid of it
When I carry I grab one of the blued ones just looks better in the remmy rig. Wait that means I need to build a rig for the SS remmy then I may carry it more. Gee I hate it when I have brain farts.:banghead:
